Be sure to add two snacks to your day such as two natural fruits - or any healthy food housed within the Food Pyramid Food Groups.

Diet Menu #2 features a wholesome kangaroo pocket for lunch, and a tostada dinner which will stick to your ribs far into the evening.

Remember to enjoy diet-friendly beverages. Total calories for this diet menu - about 1,500.

We have also totaled up the nutritional information below, ensuring that all food group daily minimum recommendations have been satisfied.

Breakfast - 2 grain, 1 fruit, 1 fat, 1 dairy

1/2 fresh grapefruit (small to medium & feel free to enjoy with no-calorie sweetener)

2 slices of Raisin Bread (100 calories each)

1 pat of reduced fat margarine

1 cup of skim milk  

Lunch - 2 grain, .5 dairy, 1 protein, 3 vegetables, 1 fat

Enjoy 1 entire kangaroo pocket OR pita pocket-type bread stuffed with the following that has been mixed with 50 calories of your favorite salad dressing: shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, chopped bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, 3 ounces of lean deli-meat, 2 Tablespoons of grated cheese.


Look for pocket bread containing about 200 calories. Use only the leanest of meat.

Enjoy with one small single-serving package of baked potato chips.  

Dinner - 3 grain, .5 dairy, 3 vegetables, 1 protein

2 Tostada's prepared as follows: mix 1/2 cup of canned refried beans with 1 teaspoon of chili powder and 1/4 cup of your favorite salsa.

Smear onto two tostada shells. Warm in the microwave or beneath the broiler, remove and top with the following mix: shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, chopped cilantro and diced onions.

Use as much of the salad fixings as you like. Sprinkle each tostada with a Tablespoon each of grated cheese.

Enjoy with more salsa and a serving of sour cream. Also enjoy 1/2 of white rice or Mexican rice prepared as follows: add 1/4 cup of the following veggies to a pan sprayed with cooking spray: diced onions, bell pepper, cilantro. Cook until onions clarify then add 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1/4 cup of salsa, 1/4 can of Mexican-style diced tomatoes and 1/2 cup of cooked white rice. Cook until heated throughout.
