The Sky Taylor Story - How Sky Lost
Over 100 Pounds
And when there were celebrations involved, I
did what I did best - cooked my fat-little pants off.
Strawberry cakes glistening with cream cheese
icing and powdered-sugar strawberries. Macaroni salad
that was so creamy that it didn't want to leave the
bowl. And pies as high as the sky - so high that the
giant in the beanstalk didn't even need to climb down
to have some.
Then almost a decade ago, something happened - something
totally amazing. I made a New Year's Resolution that I would achieve
weight loss. I didn't care if I reached the Number Skinny on the
weight scales. I just wanted to erase my pones those things that
stuck out on my sides which most folks referred to as love handles,
only there wasn't anything that I loved about them.
I just wanted
to fit into a dress, or a pair of pants and feel good about how
I felt without having my clothing fit so tight that it cut into me,
and without having to wear one more moo-moo dress. I longed for
satin and velvet and yes, good health.
With my blood pressure levels
out the kazoo, I knew that I was headed for a dance with the Diet
Devil. He was there, waiting in the shadows, disguised as that old
familiar rattlesnake just waiting to strike.
With sheer courage,
determination and yes stupidity, I plunged forward - accomplishing weight loss
- great weight loss. The
last time that I had viewed the weight scales, the numbers
read over 220 pounds and by the time I had finished,
they were at 109 - a bit too thin.
But my
vast weight loss did not come without ill health effects. My once-pretty
locks came out by the handfuls. My breath had the ability to take
down two T-Rex's in nothing flat. My skin was so flat, pale and
lifeless that I could have starred in a horror movie as the cadaver.
The good news was that my blood sugar levels were in check as well
as my blood pressure and cholesterol readings. In fact, I was able
to be weaned off of the blood pressure medication.
And boy, did I have
energy. I walked everywhere with that pale pallor, thin hair and
baited breath. I was finally free free of those unwanted pounds.
I had just been released from Prison Pounds.
But then I discovered
that I had another sort of problem on my hands - the
fact that I was rail-thin. How could I get to a healthy
weight without killing myself? Without ballooning
out again?
It was at this point
that I returned to my healthy roots, picking up the
knowledge that I had learned regarding a nutritious
diet and my weight stabilized, and my health appears
to never have been better.
The following is a month-by-month
capsule of my weight loss experience from 220+ pounds
to Diet Stabilization.
