May - The Year of the
Final Diet
My long, beautiful hair
was coming out by the handful - literally. I had noticed
my brush appearing in need of cleaning, but I hadn't
thought much about it.
Then one morning after washing
my locks, I went to wrap my hair in a towel and my hair
simply pulled loose from the scalp. By the handful.
And let me assure you that patting it back into place
just doesn't work.
I was mortified and of
course, I made fast tracks to my doctor. He decided
that my hair loss was due to stress. Of course, I neglected
to mention to him that I was starving myself to thinness.
He went on to inform
me that I might end up losing a good-deal more of my
hair before it
returned to normal. Sad but so, I lost about 1/3 of
my hair and it's never returned to normal. A lasting
reminder of what a dangerous diet can do.
By the end of May, my
weight was at 149 pounds - and wow, did that feel good!
A bit sparse on the top-side, but my bottom-side matched.
I was thrilled - delighted and thrilled.
It was at this point
that I decided to set my next weight loss goal for 139
pounds rather than 140 pounds. The 130's just sounded
so much nicer. And yeah, thinner.
This is another key to
weight loss, setting numbers that make the diet flow
quickly by. Just like in the weight-loss commercials
for certain products - they don't use 42 days as a seller
- rather 'just 6 weeks', because 6 weeks sounds so much
shorter.
By the time that June
rolled around, my diet was really heating up.
