How to Lose Weight While Dieting

While we are busy gaining weight, we keep our mouths pretty busy. Then when Diet Time rolls around, our mouths literally go into shock. They miss all that action - all that grinding, chewing and tongue-lashing.

There are a few things that a dieter can do to keep the mouth occupied and happy because if the mouth is not happy, it may eventually wear the dieter down until they surrender and began putting it into full-time action again. With food. And drink. And too much of both. At times, the most unhealthiest of selections.

Here are a few of our best tips that we hope will help you keep your mouth happy!

Diet Tips to Quell Chewing, Tasting & Grinding Desires

- Whenever you're in a sticky situation and your mouth needs to be satisfied, grab the gum.

Sugarless or the real thing? They contain about the same number of calories - about five to ten calories per stick, and we suggest reaching for the gum that assists in brightening your smile. Bubble gum is also tops for keeping the mouth happy.

There is one caveat. Don't become a Gum Bunny because too much chewing will build muscles in the jaw; the result is that you'll look larger in the face that you truly are. Use this tip rarely - for those most challenging moments.

- Tic Tac's. These little blasts of flavor go a long way for a teensy less-than-two calories each. Allow them to dissolve in your mouth for a long-lasting flavor sensation. Take note that they are so good that you may end up popping the entire pack into your mouth before you're done. Therefore, don't keep the pack close at hand. Have a couple and be done.

- Search for boxes of low calorie ice-pops at the market. Yes, in the freezer section. Some contain as little as 15 calories each and they take a while to enjoy.

- Be a Diet Sucker! Suckers last a very long while and help satisfy the taste buds while keeping the mouth busy. Be on the prowl for those 100+ calories suckers however and reach for the lower calorie versions. Try not to bite into the sucker; see if you can make it to the stick.

- Brushing those toofies just might help smother the urge to chew. When the mouth feels fresh and clean, the mind is pretty determined to keep it in that condition as long as possible. This tip works quite well close to bedtime.

- Seeds inside the hull will also occupy the mouth for long intervals for minimal calories. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are among our favorites. One full cup of sunflower seeds in the hull contains 269 calories and it would take an hour or two to get through them. Stick to small amounts - such as 1/4 cup for about 70 calories. It will take quite a while to get through them. Pumpkin seeds contain about 158 calories per ounce - and again, trim back on the amount that you enjoy. They make a healthy snack as do the sunflower seeds when kept at a minimum.

- Crushed ice not only keeps the mouth busy, it's very refreshing on those warm summer days.

- Add a curly straw to a diet drink OR a glass of water for a refreshing lift. Place a couple of cucumber slices onto your eyelids and lay back and relax.

- Frozen grapes contain minimal calories and last a long while. Simply place fresh grapes onto waxed paper and pop into the freezer until frozen. Slices of bananas work well frozen too.
