Weight
Gain That Begins After Pregnancy
Addressing
the Most Common Blockades for Dieters
Weight gain that won't let go after
pregnancy can be among the most difficult to get off.
To make Weighty Matters worse, somewhere in history,
before a baby was born, this saying was born: "You're
eating for two now!"
But often
times, this old saying delivers the feeling of being
totally free from the traditional daily diet and the
pregnant woman often feels like, "Oh boy! (Or,
oh girl!) I can eat anything that I want now and as
much as I like. I'm going to look fat anyway,
so any additional weight that I gain won't be that noticeable.
And after the pregnancy, I can easily ditch the
weight. After all, I am eating for two now!"
Then junior
enters the world, a precious little package filled with
joy, dirty diapers and frankly - lots of work. The
new mother is often overwhelmed, focusing all of her
energy on the new baby, her own needs tossed by the
wayside until she can find time to deal with them -
which generally takes about twenty-one years after junior
is born.
Even if
the expectant mother didn't gain extra pounds during
those oh-so-important nine months, she is more likely
to pack them on now.
The positive
thing about this type of weight gain is that the Weight
Gain Trigger is easily identified. The negative
thing is that many women continue to pack on pounds
after the baby is delivered. With this in mind, here
are a few weight loss tips that we hope will help you
shed that unwanted 'baby fat':
The Healthy
Daily Diet is Born
- The bulk of your weight gain stems from the daily
diet. Take a good gander at the foods you are eating
throughout the day and adjust accordingly. If
you are breast feeding, you must wait until after that
phase of your life is completed; however, the following
tips should render positive results for a healthier
you. Some key questions:
Are sweet-based
foods coming from natural sources (fruit over baked
desserts)?
Are meals
enjoyed three times per day OR do you grab 'n go throughout
the day?
Is your
daily diet influenced by nervous eating?
Activity
Arrives
- With a new baby under your wings, no doubt that
you are getting plenty of activity in spurts. It's
important to get the heart rate up - not only to create
a stronger body, but to help increase metabolism.
We suggest
a brisk 10-15 minute walk each day. Be sure to
walk in a safe area, or with a buddy - particularly
when baby is in tow.
Next, add
free weights to your daily schedule. Your goal
is not to add tons of muscle, but to add strength. Lifting
baby all day long has already given you the advantage.
All you need now is a personalized routine. Start
out with weights that are comfortable, then when strength
builds, go up a notch. When walking, consider
adding ankle weights which will strengthen the legs
and help burn more calories.
Hello
Me! -
Many young moms don't pause to take 'Me Time'. Some
common pressures are found in the following questions:
If you
are a working mom, do you often find that you are concentrating
on the baby's well-being your entire day at work?
Do you
often find that you are concerned about giving enough
time to your partner?
Do you
sometimes feel like you aren't devoting enough time
to your family - and your partner's family, as well
as to your friends? Your pets?
When you
begin to take time for YOU, the other issues will fall
into place. It's a bit like doing a project. You
work and work and work until you are exhausted - and
it suddenly seems that the project is never going to
get completed. Then you take a break and when
you return to the project, it becomes so EASY to complete.
By taking
time for yourself, you'll not only be enhancing your
own well-being, you'll also be a better you for everyone
around you. Revitalize by trying the following:
When
baby is enjoying a secluded moment, enjoy reading, playing
in the kitchen, taking a leisurely bath or watching
your favorite movie.
Purchase
or create cards that you can send to relatives and friends.
Realize
that you are human and being human, you can only accomplish
so much before the body goes into lock-down mode.
Once the
body reaches a level where it can once again run smoothly,
weight loss will come so much easier. But more important
than weight loss is assuring your good health!
