Fish is so low in caloric values, provides healthy omega 3's which support good health and it also contains other impressive essential vitamins and minerals.
But depending upon the method used in preparing the fish, the true nutritional benefits will vary greatly.
For example, if we visit Long John Silvers and order the Freshside Grille, Salmon Entreé, it contains 280 calories. The Grilled Pacific Salmon is also very low in calories at 150 kcals. The same applies to numerous other entrees on the menu, such as the grilled tilapia.
However, if we like our fish fried, it's going to naturally contain more calories and fatty acids. And keep in mind that fish is naturally oily to begin with. One Battered Alaskan Pollock contains 260 calories, 20 less than the Freshside Grille, Salmon Entreé which is accompanied with other foods from the menu.
If we like battered shrimp, three contain 130 calories - which isn't that bad, but a lot more than the Shrimp Scampi which contains 200 calories for 8 pieces. Six battered shrimp will contain about 260 kcals - so we're getting more food for less calories when we opt for the choices which lack batter and added oil.
