Pickles Are High in Salt Content

They go through a 'brine stage' where the cucumber basically takes a long bath in salt water. Therefore the end result is a naturally salty cucumber.

One cup of chopped or diced pickles contains about 1/2 the recommended upper intake for sodium. This is equal to about one large specimen.

While the amount of salt in pickled cucumbers is high, many cereals contain similar amounts per serving. For example, Banana Nut Cheerios contains 160 calories per serving - about one-half the amount of 1 spear. A serving of Kellogg's Corn Flakes contains over 200 milligrams of salt, as does their Raisin Bran.

While General Mills Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters may appear to be a very healthy choice for breakfast or for snack time, it holds 216 milligrams of salt. It's like adding two-thirds of a small pickle to your cereal bowl.
