Sodium in Milk
|
|
One cup of regular or non-fat milk contains about 100 milligrams of sodium. This is equal to the amount contained in about a teaspoon and a half of ketchup.
The current RDA for sodium intake is set at 2400 milligrams, or about a teaspoon of table salt.
The recommendation for the Dairy Food Group is 2-3 cups of milk per day - or other dairy selections from this group which add up to 2-3 servings.
Because we're unlikely to drink 24 cups of milk in one day, we're not likely to over extend ourselves on the salt contained within.
If we prefer buttermilk we'll be getting about three times the amount of salt as contained in the milk.
What about cocoa?
If prepared from cocoa powder and water, the values equal 156 milligrams.
