Diet Bites 100 Calorie Dutch Cocoa Recipe, Quite Tasty

Whenever one is dieting they often omit the foods that they enjoy in their weight reduction plan. However, with savvy cooking methods as well as healthier, lower calorie recipe ingredients, we can still enjoy a few of our favorite foods and drinks.

If you're craving chocolate while dieting, our recipe may hit the spot. It's very tiny in caloric values - and has a creamy, smooth texture.

This is a lower calorie recipe for cocoa that is quite rich.

Recipe Ingredient for Diet Dutch Cocoa

You will need the following recipe ingredients:

Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder
Skim or Reduced Fat Milk
Vanilla Extract or Imitation Vanilla
Sugar Substitute

How to Prepare Diet Dutch Cocoa

As a note we like the flavor of imitation vanilla better than vanilla extract - and most people do. Therefore, use the version that you prefer - or if you like the vanilla bean, you can use that instead.

To prepare this lower calorie cocoa recipe, mix 1 Tablespoon of powdered cocoa with a spoon of water until it forms a thick, smooth paste.

If you add the milk before doing this step it will be very difficult to combine the dry powder with the volume of milk. If you prefer you can use a bit of the milk to make the paste rather than using the spoon of water.

Add a few spoons of Splenda or your favorite sugar substitute. If you don't wish to use Splenda - or 'fake' sugar, feel free to add a spoon or two of table sugar. Per teaspoon white granulated sugar contains about 15 calories. They can quickly add up, but there are benefits of using both granulated sugar and sugar substitute.

While the table sugar contains calories it doesn't confuse the brain into thinking that a load of sugar has entered the bloodstream. When this happens, it readies the body in preparation of the sugar.

The brain notifies the pancreas which shoots out insulin so that the body remains in balance. In addition, sugar substitutes may cause allergies to intensify as well as damage the endocrine system over time. BUT, if you're dieting to lose excess fat, the zero calorie value of the fake sugar can assist in quelling that sweet craving.

To continue with our recipe, next we should transfer the cocoa paste into one cup of warm skim milk. Stir vigorously OR place into the blender. Add a shot of vanilla extract.

Cocoa Powder contains about 12 to 20 calories per Tablespoon.

Skim milk contains about 80 to 90 calories per cup.

Diet Cocoa RecipeThere are several reduced caloric cocoa mixes at the market these days that can be taken up a level in flavor for just a few more calories - or for no extra kcals. For example, adding just a bit of imitation or vanilla extract to the cocoa can add another layer of flavor - that special vanilla touch.

You can also experiment with other flavors to add your own unique twist - such as peppermint; this lends a chocolate mint flavor for no additional calories.

Those tiny marshmallows are also quite tasty and when enjoyed in minimum amounts, the energy values can remain low. A 1/4 cup serving generally holds about 25 kcals - so if you're enjoying a 50 kcal cup of cocoa, the total energy values would still equal less than 100 per serving. That's quite a nice treat while dieting - or not!
