1400 Calorie Diet: How Many Servings of Grain
|
|
For the 1400 Calorie Diet, the daily recommendation equals five ounces of grain per day. Any of the following are considered a serving size:
1/2 cup of cooked Malt-O-Meal
1 slice of whole wheat bread
1/2 cup of cooked couscous
Be sure to add healthy foods to the grain group selections that you make throughout your day.
While a glob of yellow fatty cheese along with a blob of full blown Mayo might taste wonderful on the whole wheat bread - you will be shorting yourself in the area of potential nutritional values by skipping over the reduced fat cheese assortments as well as other spreadable options that are lower in fat and cholesterol content.
We have another recipe suggestion below for those times when those sweet cravings appear over the horizon - but the selection must be low in fat and calories in order to smoothly fit into the weight loss plan. We add a healthy dose of nuts which assist in meeting servings from the protein food group.
Ridiculously easy to prepare with minimal ingredients, our muffins can be kept on hand for those quick-grab snacking needs and these are something you can feel good about eating; it's never fun to eat anything that makes you feel guilty because that kills the joy of the eating experience.
1 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour, sifted
1/3 cup of granulated sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup of Hazelnut coffee creamer, the lighter varieties
1/8 cup of vegetable oil such as canola or peanut
10 chopped hazelnuts - about 88 kcals
|
As a note, hazelnuts are commonly called filberts.
Mini-muffin pans or the regular size can be used for this recipe. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. You should end up with about one dozen muffins. Allow to fully cool before storing from exposure to air which will dry out your muffins.
To prepare mix the sugar, egg, oil and baking powder together in a deep bowl. Make sure that the baking powder fully dissolves; there is nothing like biting into a clump of baking powder. Makes the mouth pucker just thinking about it, doesn't it?
Next, stir in the creamer. Now add the flour and after the batter is formed, stir in the hazelnuts.
