 
Recommended Calorie Needs Based on Weight

To determine daily calories to maintain a particular weight, locate your weight on our data chart below.
Next, choose whichever column applies: Inactive Lifestyle, Moderate Lifestyle or Active Lifestyle which will provide a pattern for the daily calories needed. The more active the individual, the more energy that will be required by the body to meet the most basic nutritional needs.
For example, an active 141 pound individual requires about 2397 calories to maintain that weight. If the energy intake equals 2500, then they will need to expend the excess energy via activity and exercise or weight gain will occur - even when the surplus is provided by healthy food sources.
On the other hand, if the same individual consumes only 2000 kcals throughout their day, a drop in body weight will be reflected. Take note that it may not necessarily be instantly reflected - such as on the following morning as this caloric amount is quite small. The difference is only a little over 100 kcals - not enough to trigger an ounce in weight loss, much less one pound or more.
However, these little differences indeed mount up over time when energy consumption values continue to remain at a declined level.
Numbers in our data chart are based on our personal formula and are provided for informational purposes only. They can be used as a pattern - giving you a good idea of the amount of calories that your body requires for the day.
We recommend that you meet with your doctor, nutritionist or dietitian to determine your individual calorie needs as many factors can effect this number such as gender, muscle mass, age and various levels of activity.
For example, a 140 pound individual burns approximately 103 calories during 15 minutes of biking and only 50 calories during 15 minutes of playing Frisbee. The stronger, more aggressive, more enduring the activity - the larger the amount of energy that will be burned by the body in performing the activity.
Individuals who weigh more will simply burn more energy per activity than a person at a smaller weight.
