Calories Burned Doing Kenpo
Article by Diet Bites
One of the Martial Arts
We're very familiar with this art as our son has a black belt and owned a dojo until an injury forced him to move onto another field.
He was - and still is an excellent instructor and very devoted to Kenpo.
Areas of the Body Strengthened
This art can involve mild to strenuous activity and offers many benefits to the body.
One of the strongest is in the area of balance and coordination. He taught several students who were of senior age who participated simply to hone their balance.
When we age, accidents that are balance related are one of the major reasons why older individuals often lose their independence, having to move into a situation where other people are there to assist them with at times, the most basic of functions. Therefore, sharpening balance skills may prevent such - but not just for older adults.
In addition, the heart, lungs and muscles of the body are strengthened during activity.
Kenpo: Calories Burned Amid Activity
This activity burns a significant amount of energy. Even a very small 105 pound individual will burn close to 500 kcals over a period of 90 minutes.
A 190 pound individual will burn close to 850 calories over the same amount of time while a 250 pound individual will burn over 1100 calories! This is considerably more than mowing a lawn by hand.
Kenpo, Not Without Risks
When our son had his dojo, he participated in numerous competitions. I never went because I appreciated the art itself; I simply don't like violence of any sort - or competitions for that matter. And the situation was even more intense because they involved our son.
He had been going through his moves one day prior to an upcoming competition and when he flexed his knee, he heard a pop. I begged him not to go to the competition, but who listens to their five foot tall mother? He knew he'd win - because he had never lost in all of the competitions that he had participated in before.
But then the phone call came - a few hours after the competition started. He was at the hospital and he needed surgery. What followed impacted the entire family and a long recovery time for him.
Moral of the Story: Pace yourself when performing any activity and monitor your endurance level; in addition - always listen to your mother.
