Calories Burned - Kempo

Martial Arts for Fitness

The fantastic thing about any martial art is that it not only assists in getting the body moving - thus burning calories, it may also work to save the student's life one day - or to assist them in saving or protecting someone they love.

Today's world is a bit scary. We're seeing things that were once considered taboo just a couple of decades ago.

For one, all of these tattoos. But of course - it's the 'in thing'.

The even more concerning factor is that we tend to change greatly as we age. What we once were - we no longer are as we age. And many of the things that we did in our younger years we regret - and wish that we could change - like that tattoo which no longer looks like a pretty rose as our skin ages and turns into a saggy prune state.

And almost everyone has at least one thing pierced on their body these days.

This isn't to say that people shouldn't get their ears pierced - or get a tattoo, but it is to say that sometimes we do things that we later regret. And some of the 'looks' in today's world were associated with the look that 'bad guys' were associated with just a few years back.

If someone who was coated in tattoos appeared in a bank in that era, a teller would most probably hit that secret bell, alerting the cops.

In today's world - things have rapidly changed. Mary Lou might be the sweetest, most innocent girl on the block - yet she is covered in tattoos from head to toe and her body has multiple piercings. It's the old saying in play, "You can't judge a book by its cover."

And on this note - being able to defend yourself is more important than ever before. We no longer have the a-typical criminal or bad guy 'look' that tips us off. Tattoos, piercings as well as other things that people do to alter the way that their body appears are totally acceptable in today's world - or, as least by the general public.

The Caloric Burn

In addition to being able to adequately defend one's self - there is the caloric burn associate with Kempo. An individual who is 140 pounds will burn about 312 kcals amid a forty-five minute session.

Other martial arts - including Karate, Kenpo, and Tae Kwan Do will burn about the same number of calories over the same amount of time.
