Diet Newsletter for November Dieters

Diet Bites Newsletter Edition #11

Giving Thanks....

Have we got some Thanksgiving tips for our beloved readers who are busy trying to avoid all of the holiday goodies. It's a challenge - no doubt about that.

Grilling or Camping Tips for the Holiday

If you're one of the lucky dieters experiencing some sunny weather on Thanksgiving, why not get out the grill and enjoy it while you still can? Or - what about camping? It's a great time of the year to do such in many areas before the arrival of the colder weather. And there is nothing quite like cooking over an open campfire.

Grilling  or campfire-cooking is downright fun and entertaining, dating back to the birth of fire. It's the caveman and cavewoman in us that can't resist being hypnotized by the sizzle of fire, the scent of wood (or charcoal) whisking across our o-factors, combined with the aroma of just-grilled foods.

And grilling is a great cooking mode for anyone watching their weight.

We've got a few right-off-the-grill recipes threaded throughout this page, as well as some tasty links relating to grilling at Diet Bites that are guaranteed to set your grill ablaze with goodness. So grab that bag of marshmallows, that package of lean meat, those tender ears of corn and get ready to grill up some goodness.

Every great grill master knows this corny trick.

When grilling corn, leave on the husks to lock in the heat. You may wish to pull back the husk and remove the corn silk before placing on the grill.  If you choose to do this, be sure to pull the husks tightly in place so that they are locked securely around the corn.

Serve corn with a mix of the following: No calorie butter spray mixed with a bit of garlic salt, cracked pepper & crushed rosemary.

Health & Dieting Notes In the News

Checking expiration dates on pancake mix packages may prevent serious illness, including death. Old pancake mix is a ripe vat, encouraging the formation of mold.

Some individuals who are allergic to mold may experience a life-threatening incident. One death has been reported that was associated with pancake mix past its expiration date. Tips for packaged pancake mixes:

- Purchase mixes that come inside of sealed bags rather than those that are put straight into the box.

- If the pancake mix smells, looks or tastes odd, do not use and do not continue to eat.

- Store dry pancake mix in an area that with low humidity.

But don't stop with pancake mixes. Check all labels - from the pantry, the fridge, including medicines in other areas that may be past their prime.

In Summary: We hope that your Thanksgiving is as special as the season. Thank you for making Diet Bites a part of your life.

How to Wisely Set Weight Loss Goals

If you're having issues setting your goal weight, here is a good rule of thumb. For example, if Merna is going on a diet and is 5'5" in height and currently weighs 204 pounds, this is how Diet Bites recommends that she set her weight loss goals:

- Her FIRST weight goal will be 199 pounds. This will allow her to be out of the 200 range and into the 100+ range and can serve as a motivating factor.

- Her SECOND weight goal will be 189 pounds. Now she is already into her 180's.

- Her THIRD weight goal will be 179 pounds.

- Her FOURTH weight goal will be 169 pounds - and so forth until her final goal weight is reached.

Take note that she should set more than one goal for her weight; this allows her to reach several achievements in the area of weight loss as she works her way down to her ideal weight of 130 pounds.
