Still dreaming about that bikini or sweet little swimsuit? Don't just dream!  Get to cracking on a diet that will trim away those excess pounds.

If you start now, you can be 16 pounds or more thinner by the first day of summer.

In the mood for fries?  Try slicing an unpeeled Idaho potato into thin slices, then 'fry' in a non-stick pan using butter flavored, non-stick cooking spray.  A small potato contains about 120 calories and when dipped into skinny red catsup, you've got a treat that will blow those fries right out of the Deep Fat Fryer!

 Peanut Butter Balls

This recipe is ultra simple and one that the kids can enjoy making.

Simply take 2 Tablespoons of smooth or chunky peanut butter and mix with 1 teaspoon of dark or golden raisins and 1 teaspoon of whole oats.

Roll into balls; roll into powdered sugar.

In the News

Over the counter vitamins are under the microscope and will soon be reviewed for safety. The National Institute of Health commissioned a panel of health experts to review over the counter vitamins which currently are unregulated.

The panel concluded that insufficient information existed in regards to recommending 'taking' or 'not taking' other the counter vitamins.  In addition, the panel strongly recommended that over the counter vitamins be reviewed for safety and effectiveness.

Our recommendation: Supplement your daily diet with other the counter vitamins ONLY if your doctor recommends such - at least until the research is completed.  The panel reviewing OTC vitamins concluded that some brands of vitamins contain more the recommended daily allowance.  Excess consumption of some vitamins can lead to the following:

Excess niacin may lead to liver damage;

Excess Vitamin A can lead to birth defects;

Excess Vitamin E can lead to bleeding problems;

Excess beta carotene consumption in smokers may lead to lung cancer.

Best Buys at Your Local Food Market

Here are a few of the best fresh buys at the market - as well as in Mother Nature's back yard this week that are tweaking up for warmer weather just over our horizon.  Keep in mind that if you go shopping in Mother Nature's back yard, take only what you need as local wildlife are dependent upon fruits & plants for survival.

  • Mulberries are popping out all over in areas of the South.  They go exceptionally well with a dash of light whipped topping.
  • Avocados and asparagus are our Green Thumb picks for the week.
  • Other great buys at the local market include: radishes, onions, leeks, fresh herbs.
