Binge Eating

Almost All Diets End in Binge

Sad but so. If you've ever been on a weight reduction plan you're probably aware of such. You may have been a casualty if you didn't follow through until you reached your set goal in pounds.

Even those who go to the end of their plan, and who later regain the lost pounds, tend to do such with a binge.

For days, weeks or even months they may have closely monitored their daily diet - yet one day they may say, "I'm tired of monitoring every little thing that I eat and drink. Today - and just for today, I'm going to eat and drink anything that I want. I just want to be free. It's too stressful, all of this calorie counting" - or whatever method is being used to regulate body weight.

The negative side to this manner of thinking is that once we give in to our cravings rather than staying inline with our required energy needs, we start to use this method on a repeated basis. Before we realize what has happened, we've gotten fat again.

What is Binge Eating?

Bingeing very rarely occurs with food and drink disliked by an individual. The situation almost-always involves those favorite choices.

For example, let's say that Jane loves chocolate cake. If she goes into binge-mode, she will likely consume the entire cake during the day. This condition often involves the individual stuffing their stomach as full as possible with a certain food - or with multiple foods or beverages.

X-amount of time passes. The amount depends upon the individual and their level of craving. It may range from about an hour to several hours.

At times, when a person is trying to keep excess pounds away they will go on a binge - and promise that they won't eat for the rest of the day. Then when hunger takes root they may think, "Well, I've already fell overboard in the calorie department today - so I'll enjoy myself JUST FOR TODAY, and then I'll be good going forward."

So they'll return to the chocolate cake - as in Jane's situation and continue to eat as much as they can stuff into their stomach again.

The bingeing process may occur several times throughout the day, up until bedtime.

For individuals who are morbidly obese, they may remain locked in this mode 24-7.
