One Good Meal a Day Diet

This Fad Plan is Not Exactly as Titled

There is only one good meal provided for each day of the plan. This serves to encourage gorging both during and following the plan. You know - so you can catch up on all those lost calories. When gorging occurs during the plan, the individual is desperate to scarf-up all the energy values possible due to starvation.

By the end of the week, the individual will likely experience the following side effects: decrease in metabolic rate as the metabolism struggles to save precious energy that the plan is greatly lacking in, extreme hunger pains, bloating in the belly area, shaking, trembling of the extremities, possible increased heart rate and elevated blood pressure readings and irritability.

More serious side of effects of fad diets such as contained in the One Good Meal a Day include: fainting, nausea and other digestive issues, low blood sugar which can lead to coma, heart and kidney failure and death.

The Menus, Seven Days of Near-Fasting

Day 1, 500 Calories

Breakfast - a nice cup of coffee served black. Add one slice of dry toast or a measly saltine cracker. For lunch there are two eggs and one tomato on the plate. No instructions on how to prepare the eggs, but we're assuming that they aren't consumed in their raw state. What fun - getting salmonella while starving.

Dinner consists of 7 ounces of red meat - no fish, chicken, goose, turkey or pork allowed for lunch. No clue as to the cut of red meat recommended. Fact: Red meat is connected with heart disease and stroke. Also, a green salad. No tomatoes or other common salad items are invited to the meal.

 


Day 2, 600 Calories

The breakfast meal for Day 1, 2, 3 and 4 are identical. For lunch, another 7 ounces of red meat and a green salad. Dinner contains 5¼ ounces of ham plus a cup of yogurt. Why - we ask, is their 5¼ ounces of ham? Is this some magic number? As to the yogurt, no milk-grade is specified.

Day 3, 400 Calories [We based our values on medium sized boiled eggs and 1 cup of fruit consisting of berries and melon.]

That plain coffee and stale saltine are probably getting really old at this point during breakfast. This menu goes totally against the purpose of the first meal of the day - to break the fast, not to fast until one breaks. For lunch, we see a green salad but today one tomato appears along with one Mandarin orange [tangerine] or a regular orange. My, so many choices.

For dinner we see 3.5 ounces of ham, a fruit salad and two eggs. Again, no guidelines on how to prepare the eggs or an amount specified for the fruit salad.

Day 4, 800 Calories

Lunch Plate: 5¼ ounces of Gruyere cheese, 1 egg and a carrot. We don't know if the carrot is of baby size or full grown. For dinner, another fruit salad and a yogurt.

Day 5, 800 Calories

Today, breakfast gets shifted to more pig - 5¼ ounces of ham and oddly, a cup of carrots. We suppose the crunch of the carrots will assist in waking up the diner. For lunch we have 7 ounces of broiled fish and a tomato. We don't know what species of fish or the size of the tomato - if it's a cherry or a beefsteak tomato. Dinner plate contains 8¾ ounces of red meat. Again - no white meat invited to the meal. Nothing else but the red meat, but ketchup is allowed so that it waddles smoothly down the throat.

Day 6, 500 Calories

For Day 6 and 7 we return to the fasting coffee-cracker thing. Lunch contains ¼ of a baked chicken and 1 citrus fruit. Dinner - 2 eggs and one cup of raw carrot.

Day 7, 800 Calories

Lunch contains another 7 ounces of red meat and a citrus fruit with dinner holding anything that the diner desires up to 500 calories.

After day 7, the dieter enters Phase II which is merely a repeat of Phase 1.

Our Review of the One Good Meal a Day Diet

It's one of the most ridiculous and dangerous plans to pursue. If you choose to go this route, just ask your doctor when you meet him in the Emergency Room. In addition, it can prove fatal for heart patients, diabetics, kidney and liver patients, the young, the elderly and those with challenged immune systems.
