Low Calorie CocktailWritten by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites What are the cocktails that contain minimal caloric content?
Oh my - those little cocktails can certainly get a dieter into some big trouble where calories are concerned. Particularly when the party gets to going and they end up drinking two or more. An innocent looking Daiquiri can quickly go from 125 calories to way over 500. Talk about cows and moon-jumping. Monitor Salt Intake When Enjoying CocktailsBut it's not always the party mood and spirit of the event which has some drinking more than that single cocktail. Appetizers are generally mined with sodium (salt) content because salt does add flavor. Just look what it does to a rice cake. That plain-jane starts out as nothing more than a piece of concealed cardboard, but that dash or two of salt makes all the difference. On that note, have you ever eaten an unsalted cracker? Those require way more than one drink to get down the gullet. And then we have the fancy way-too-salty no-nothings that decorate the appetizers - no-nothings that most of us cannot resist, like green olives stuffed with red pimento with a toothpick that has all this lovely curly something-or-another shooting off one end. So festive - and it makes the otherwise mundane olive look very appetizing. The party toothpick even makes that olive taste better than it would without it. Chips and dips generally abound amid party-like atmospheres. To find them, just look for the table with the big bulge in the center, just below the white tablecloth. The salty dip should be stationed a hand's reach from the chip container. Then we have the deli-meats that typically rest on gourmet type crackers, or tiny gourmet bread. While the meat slices are razor thin at times, they are still mined with sodium content. And once the party-goer ingests a few tiny salty sandwiches along with a few olives stabbed with frilly toothpicks, and a basket of salty chips and dip - what's going to happen next? Thirst.....like one has never seen before or may never see again. Therefore, when out partying - as you play pay close attention to not only which cocktail you're ordering or enjoying, but also to any salty foods that may be lurking about that might cause you to order drink two or more.
