Menu Selections Matter for Good Health

It really does matter what we order when dining out - whether it's a rare splurge or if we're used to doing fast food on a regular basis, particularly when it comes to healthier choices for our kids.

It's up to us to protect them inside and out until they are old enough to do such on their own.

Trimming Calories & Fat in Fast Food Menu Selections

A great tip for adults is opting for choices on the kid's menu. They are generally prepared in the same manner, using identical recipes - the serving sizes are simply greatly reduced.

While a platter of spaghetti might contain close to 1,000 calories, enjoying a serving from the kid's menu can contain less than 300.

Even ordering the smaller burgers will assist in trimming calories and fat - at times, more than one-half.

The following nutritional facts and data is based on choices from the kid's menu selection at fast food restaurants.

Take Along Healthy Foods to Pair With Fast Food

Want to increase the nutritional values of your menu selections?

Try taking along a sealed bag or container of your favorite vegetables. Ours include leafy green lettuce and slices of sun-ripened tomatoes.

Most fast food burgers lack vegetables, although of course - the tomato is actually classified as a fruit.

By adding these healthy, low calorie ingredients to your menu selections, you'll be increasing health benefits naturally - using natural, raw foods.

Avocados are another fantastic fruit to take along. They have been shown to stimulate the thyroid and may contribute to a healthier, faster metabolism.

Other take along foods include baked chips, cottage cheese that is low in fat, a sealed container of fresh fruit selections - or even canned with pop-away lids.

Also consider bringing along your favorite 100% juices, water or milk. These make superior options over empty calorie sodas.
