Gravy is Delicious, But Deadly to Dieters When Fatty

Enjoy your holidays, but don't enjoy too much gravy in the process.  

One Tablespoon of gravy generally contains 20 to 60 calories - depending on the recipe as well as the type of gravy.

If you're enjoying that twenty calorie serving, then eat heartily - but if the ladle holds gold, then do limit.

Creamy gravies are going to contain more calories as the base comes from milk - generally whole milk, and many times from a rue where melted butter is used in the base recipe.

Clear gravy makes a better dieter's choice as the recipe leans on bouillons and broths with a cornstarch or flour thickener.  

The downside is that bouillons and broths are usually loaded with sodium.

See?  It's just about impossible to get away with good old gravy while remaining health wise.

1 medium can of low sodium/low fat chicken, turkey, vegetable OR beef broth
2 Tablespoons of cornstarch diluted in a Tablespoon of water

How to Prepare Diet Bites Skinny Gravy Recipe

Heat the broth until it is bubbly; add the cornstarch mixture and stir like one crazy cat. Add cracked black pepper if desired OR golden brown chopped onion and mushrooms that have been cooked in buttery, no calorie cooking spray.  

You can enjoy the entire batch of gravy for about the same number of calories as contained in that "undiet friendly" 1 Tablespoon of gravy.

Au Jus, Lowest in Calories

One cup contains a skinny 36 calories. It's more of a dip than a gravy - but still delicious. If you are unfamiliar with Au Jus, it's the side item which is used as a dip for Philly Steak & Cheese Sandwiches.
