Tricks for Losing Weight

Diet Bites Easy Tricks for Losing Weight

Need a few tricks that REALLY work well to help you lose those excess pounds? Yeah? Then you've hit the Weight Loss Jackpot because we have easy tricks that yes, actually work.

Fruit Tricks for Weight Loss

1. Bananas

The next time that you eat a banana, instead of peeling it and eating it - instead peel the banana and cut it into thin circles.

Eat the slices one at a time and don't add another one to your mouth until you have finished the first.

This weight loss trick will result in increased time to consume the fruit and it will take you about ten times longer to eat the fruit than if you'd simply peeled and wolfed-down the banana.

2. Round Fruits: Apples, Nectarines, Kiwi, Mango

As with the banana, you'll increase the amount of time that it takes to eat the fruits if you cut them into smaller bits and enjoy each little cube or slice - one at a time.

3. Berries

These are fantastic fruits for dieters - not only because they are minimal in calories but also because they can easily be paired with other food groups.

Because they are small they can be enjoyed - one berry at a time. Strawberries contain about 50 calories a cup while raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, gooseberries and other most other berries contain about 75 calories per cup.

Add a few to your next salad for a nutritional boost.

4. Segmented Fruits: Grapefruit, Oranges, Tangerines [Mandarin Oranges]

These are other fruits which take a while to consume if you take time to remove the membranes surrounding the fruits.

You'll lose a bit of dietary fiber benefits but fruits without the membrane will assist in curbing your sweet tooth. Natural sugar isn't addictive as processed sugars.

Vegetable Tricks for Weight Loss

1. Rather than adding your regular amount of margarine or butter to your vegetables, spoon out the amount that you normally add and divide it in half.

2. Cook a few small potatoes in your microwave and leave on the skins. Store them in your refrigerator and enjoy one with salt and pepper at snack time - or with your meal.

They are very satisfying and a small potato is packed with potassium and contains a skinny 120 calories.

3. I like to take a selection of root vegetables, clean them and drizzle them with minimal extra virgin olive oil. I pop them into my little toaster oven and roast them until they are beautifully golden and tender.

3. We tend to cook our vegetables which serves to deplete essential mineral and vitamin content while increasing calories - because we can't help but coat our cooked vegetables in butter, margarine, and sauces. It's time to think out of the box.

Rather than serving glazed carrots on your plate, what about a carrot and raisin salad?

If you've never prepare carrot and raisin salad before, it's simply a mix of grated sweet carrots and a few dark or golden raisins. If you must have added sauces, you can use your favorite light dressing - and add it sparingly.

Protein Tricks for Weight Loss

While animal proteins are an excellent source for protein - so are beans and other legumes, nuts and their butters, edible seeds such as sunflower, and eggs.

Keep in mind that dieters often feel deprived because most meals require very minimal time to consume. By adding foods which can take longer to eat to your snack times or meal plates, you won't feel as deprived.

Beans can be enjoyed one pod at a time, as can nuts and seeds, thus able to satisfy the body's need for chewing.

Eggs are one of the best foods to satisfy appetite. They have impressive satiety power. Eggs are also very minimal in calories - a tab over 50 calories for a small egg and about 80 for a large.

You can prepare a very low calorie egg salad by using minimal yolks and more of the boiled egg white as the yolks contain about three times the amount of calories than the whites.

Use low fat Mayo when dressing the egg salad OR use less of your favorite regular brand. I like to add a teaspoon of sweet pickle relish to about half-dozen boiled eggs. To that I add about 2 Tablespoons of light Miracle Whip, a bit of salt and black pepper. At times I'll add adash of dill weed and a pinch of celery salt.

Grain Tricks for Weight Loss

When dieting, when we feel like we're eating more, we're going to trick our brain into being more satisfied. Like bread. The more that we 'think' we're eating, the more we'll tend to be satisfied with our portion.

Cutting our sandwiches into four wedges is a great way of tricking our brain into thinking we're eating more food. Be certain to check the nutrition labels and opt for the breads which are lowest in calories. Through our health studies at Diet Bites we've seen bread as low as 35 calories per slice - and some which have more than 100 calories per slice.

Eating popped corn, one kernel at a time is also another great trick. If you can't do without chips while dieting, take your time when eating. Rather than piling them into the old grocery hole, try nibbling on them - slowly.

Dairy Tricks for Weight Loss

When enjoying milk with your meal use a small glass so that the liquid fills the cup. A serving size for milk equals 1 cup but because most drinking containers in American kitchens hole 2-4 cups, that 1 cup serving may not appear as if its enough in large drinking vessels. Using the small cup will trick the brain into thinking it's getting a large serving of milk.

If you're a cheese lover, look for the thin slices at your market which contain about 40 calories per slice. You'll still get that wonderful flavorful bite of cheese - but you'll only be consuming about one-half the calories contained in a large, thick slice.

Beverage & Meal Tricks for Weight Loss
