Enjoying Life to Its Fullest, Washing the Blues Away With Happiness

Enjoying the things that you love in life may add years to your life.

Having fun almost always delivers positive results - and there are numerous health benefits associated with a state of happiness.

Happiness and enjoyment alleviates stress, invigorates the body and is good for the soul.

The next time that you're feeling low, look towards the things that you love to do to help cheer you up.

The Mood Swing

I like to think of the word MOOD as a giant playground that contains many swings.

Some mood swings are sad, some are regretful, some are curious, some are scary and some are threatening.

The good thing is that bad moods tend to be temporary - and they vanish much more quickly when we subject them to the things that make us happiest in life.

Things to Make You Happy

1. Pictures from the past.

At times it's a good idea to pull out memory books and see where we've been and what we've accomplished in life. However, be careful not to judge yourself too harshly. Most of us do well to get through life. None of us can take what we gain in monetary value with us when we die. But those sweet memories leave with us.

2. Set an example to your family and friends because sometimes, getting happy follows us beyond the grave.

Try to decide how you want to be remembered as you enjoy those final years of your life. Do you want to be remembered as whiney? As a tightwad? As cranky?

Keep in mind that we aren't remembered how WE want to be remembered. We are remembered how others considered us in life.

3. How long has it been since you did something for someone else? As we grow old, at times we get used for others doing things to make OUR lives easier.

However, there is nothing quite a joyous as doing something for someone else. It gives us a burst of happiness.

If you have the wherewithal, consider sponsoring a pet at a shelter. During the holidays, sponsor a child.

If funds are unavailable, there are a number of things you can do. Make doll clothes out of some of your worn clothing and give it away - if you can sew. Bake a peach cobbler or sugar cookies and surprise your next visitor with a take-home bag.

The possibilities are endless.
