Weight Loss Based on Activity Level
Calories Burned

Written by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Diet Article: Adding activity to your schedule equals quicker weight loss results.

If it's not fun - it goes undone! When decreased calories marries moderate activity - BLAM, weight loss ensues at a much quicker rate than solo dieting.

We do feel that most weight loss plans require too much exercise, some to the extent that the dieter gives up on losing those layers of unhealthy fat.

With that in mind, the goal of the weight loss plan should be to incorporate moderate activity, fun activities - activities that tone, activities that strength and activities that the dieter looks forward to.

How many calories will exercise burn?

That will greatly depend upon your current weight. Diet Bites has a Calorie Needs Chart which is based on weight in addition to the activity tiers: inactive, moderate and active lifestyles.

The more weight that an individual weights, the more calories they will burn amid activity - as well as when at rest in comparison to an individual who weighs less.

For example, Dieter Danny weighs 250 pounds and Dieter Todd weighs 200 pounds.

When Danny is inactive he will need 3,250 daily calories to maintain his current weight of 250 pounds. When Danny is moderately active he will require 3,750 calories to maintain his current weight. And when he is active he will require over 4,000 calories to do such.

The Caloric Burn

Another way that we can look at the Diet Bites chart is - instead of viewing the calorie needs we can also say the caloric burn.

In other words, Danny will burn about 4,250 calories at his current 250 pound weight throughout the day.

If he burns more calories than 4,250 he will lose weight. If he consumes 4,250 calories and doesn't burn them all, then he will gain weight.

Now let's take a look at Dieter Todd who currently weighs 200 pounds. He is striving to lose to 170 pounds based on his height and body frame size as this is his recommended - or perfect ideal weight in regards to health.

At 200 pounds his body will require 2,600 calories to maintain while he is at an inactive state, 3,000 calories for a moderately active state and 3,400 calories if he is considered active during the day.

After a month, Dieter Todd has lost 20 pounds. If we review our Calorie Needs Chart we will find that his daily caloric needs have reduced along with the lost weight.

Now he will need only 2,340 calories to support his new 180 pound weight. Even if he is active for the day his body will only require 3,060 calories.

There is quite a difference in the number of daily calories that were required to support Todd's former weight of 200 pounds and his new weight of 180 pounds.

In Summary

All calorie needs charts, including the one at Diet Bites are based on averages and are never set in stone due to the individuality of we-humans.

They can be used as excellent patterns for establishing caloric needs for the day based on one's activity level.

We find that the more active that the individual is, the more energy needs they will have.

If construction worker Harry had been involved in our study, because he is super active - if he weighed 200 pounds his energy needs might be significantly more than the 3,400 calories recommended by our chart.

The amount of calories burned are greatly dependent upon the type of activity being performed and the amount of strength rendered.
