Hacker or Packer?

Diet Article: Which type of dieter are you? If any?

We thought we'd have some fun examining certain types of Diet Personalities. But seriously, a good many of us tend to fall in all four categories from time to time in our lives.

Let's start with the 'Snacker Dieter' and as you read, see which - if any dieter fits your current diet. Hint, hint: You want to be the last dieter mentioned in our article summary - and we're betting that you are just that!

The Snacker Dieter

This individual is a Snack Beast - and snacks morning, noon and night. Munchies may include chocolate covered candy bars, cupcakes with creamy fillings, cookies, cheese sticks, bags of buttered microwaved popcorn, chips, light beer and diet sodas.

The reason this poses issues in regards to weight gain is because the snacks that are common favorites are high in calorie and dietary fat values. Three cupcakes contain about 600 calories - and that's for the small cupcakes. While one regular candy bar contains from 170 to about 330 calories, its giant brother contains double that amount as it is double in size.

Oddly enough, most Snacker Dieters opt for the diet sodas as well as light beers - perhaps in an attempt to balance the calories. But of course, depending upon how deep the splurge, this may or may not be able to rectify the situation or prevent weight gain. It all depends upon how many calories end up being in the daily total and how many of those calories exceed the recommended caloric needs of the snacker.

To remedy the rut that the Snacker Dieter has reamed-out over time, they should go cold turkey on the snacks - taking them entirely out of their diet plan. The exception is for those with certain health conditions - such as those individuals who may have difficult with the stabilization of their blood sugar levels. At minimum, most individuals can cut snacks completely from their daily diet - or simply enjoy a plum or an apricot or a rice cake for snack time.

The Slacker Dieter

This individual wants to explore and embrace a healthy daily diet but 'not today. The official motto of the Slacker Dieter is, "Always put off tomorrow instead of doing it today'. The problem with the Slacker is that tomorrow never comes and they keep on trucking on their poor, unhealthy daily diet plan that is mined with far too many naughty calories and dietary fat grams as the pounds pile on.

The Slacker Dieter is at high risk of falling into the YoYo Dieting Pit if they go on a weight loss plan, yet they aren't ready to follow through until the end of the diet. Therefore, they should take weight loss very seriously and only attempt a diet when they are dedicated to seeing it through until the end, when they reach their health and weight goals.

YoYo dieting is dangerous because it tends to trigger weight gain.

For example, Dieter Delta goes on a fad diet plan for one week. She needs to lose 40 pounds. After one week she finds that the fad diet is not what she expected; it's far too brutal. She celebrates quitting her diet by bingeing on her favorite foods. On her fad diet she lost a total of 2 pounds; by the end of another two weeks she will need to lose 45 pounds rather than 40.

Delta finds another diet plan that looks like the key to weight loss success. It's almost too good to be true. All that she has to do is eat six bananas a day and exercise for two hours. Three days later at the emergency room, she thinks that this fad diet was more of a skeleton key than a key to weight loss success.

Over the next month she feels that she was fortunate that she didn't end up six feet under with the last fad diet - and she let's down her hair and celebrates life. By eating. At the end of the month, she now has 50 pounds to lose rather than the initial 40 pounds. Therein the danger of fad diets. Fact is - the thing that all dieters do as soon as they ditch their weight loss plan is to celebrate by eating all of their favorite foods - and as much of them as they want. Bingeing at its worst.

The Hacker Dieter

This individual tends to prepare meals in advance - a normally healthy thing to do. However, Hacker Dieters prepare giant objects such as twenty-pound turkeys, monster hams, tubs of lasagna and pots of soups. They plan to diet as soon as the leftovers run out.

The trouble with that is that the Hacker Dieter will be hacking away at the storehouse until Diet Doomsday. By the time the storehouse is gone, the desire to lose weight is also gone.

The Packer Dieter

This individual tends to pack lunch and pack snacks. The Packer Dieter is generally a healthy eater until the company function when they are called upon to pack in enough food for workforce heyday.

In Summary: Whatever type of dieter you might be - aim to be a healthy dieter, an individual who embraces the best of the Food Pyramid and who adds a healthy dose of activity to their daily routine. This of course, is the most successful dieter and yes, it's so you.
