Easy Banana Cream Pie Recipe

Our recipe for Banana Dream Cream Pie contains only a few ingredients:

1 graham cracker prepared piecrust
6 bananas, peeled and sliced into rings
1 small container of Fat Free Whipped Topping
1 Tablespoon of Banana Extract
1 Tablespoon of Rum Extract
1/4 Cup of Light or Dark Brown Sugar

If you prefer to use a white, all-purpose flour piecrust, that will also work well with this recipe.

To prepare the pie, place the sliced bananas in a medium sized bowl. Add the extracts and the brown sugar and stir to coat the bananas. Carefully fold in the topping and transfer to the piecrust. Spoon more topping on top of the pie and dust with ground cinnamon if desired.

Lower Calorie Banana Split Recipe

Ice cream as well as the sugary toppings and syrups that go into the typical banana split recipe are responsible for the bulk of calories and fat grams. A Banana Split as served at Dairy Queen Restaurant and which weighs 374 grams contains 520 calories and 14 grams of fat. A Banana Split that weighs 309 grams at Sonic Drive-In contains 490 calories and 18 fat grams. So it's a good bet that a banana split will cost about 500 calories - which are far too many calories to pack into an already-thin, calorie-restricted diet plan.

Let's try something skinner, shall we? Start by cutting a banana in half, then split it down the center just as traditional splits are made. Add one serving of your favorite flavor of light, reduced fat ice cream that contains no more than 130 calories per 1/2 cup serving.

Next, add a teaspoon of strawberry preserves and a teaspoon of apricot preserves - or you can opt for cherry and pineapple, or whatever your favorite preserves might be. Because the preserves contain fruit, at least we're getting some nutritional value from the food. Also drizzle on a teaspoon of chocolate syrup. Spray a squirt of light whipped cream on top (15 calories) and add a cherry with a stem.

The banana contains about 50 calories, the preserves and chocolate combined contain about 70 calories and the ice cream, 130. The whipped cream contains 15 and the cherry, 15. Total calories for our banana split equal 280 calories - almost half of what a fast food banana split contains.

Quick Diet Tips for Bananas

Stuff a dried apricot with a slice of banana and a slivered almond for a moist, delicious treat.

Blend slices from a frozen banana with 3/4 cup of skim milk until thick. Add your favorite extracts such as rum, vanilla and almond. You can also add a sprinkle of ground cinnamon. Skinny shake contains a little over 100 calories when 1/2 a banana is used.

Create a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Use 35 calorie diet bread; smear with Peter Pan's Whipped Peanut Butter (140 calories per serving), add slices of banana. About 210 calories.
