Yogurt Calories

The recipe used in making the yogurt will greatly influence the amount of energy contained therein. Calories may range from 80 to over 200 kcals per serving.

In addition, the brands at your local market offer different serving sizes. Some are tiny, containing a scant four to six ounces while others are a bit generous at eight ounces.

If the yogurt contains sugar substitute rather than added sugar, it's going to be much lower in caloric values than its sugary counterpart.

Calcium in Whole Milk Yogurt

Calcium content is substantial at about 300 milligrams for an eight ounce serving. How much calcium does your body require per day?

Most adults need about 1,000 daily milligrams. Women over the age of fifty require 1,200 milligrams, as do men over the age of 70.

As to supplements, these can pose health benefits as well as health risks. The safe, upper intake level is 2,500 daily milligrams. Excess levels of calcium in the body may cause the following:

* Excessive thirst which in turn causes excessive urination issues.

* Muscle weakness.

* Bone pain.

* Digestive issues, including abdominal and stomach ache.

* Confusion, fatigue, lethargy.

* Abnormal heart rhythms.

* High blood pressure.

Fat Distribution of Whole Milk Yogurt

Much of the total fat is in the form of saturated fat, one of the unhealthy fats along with Trans fatty acids. The better choice is non-fat or low fat yogurt as it contains less harmful lipids, lower calories, and surprisingly more calcium benefits.
