Carbohydrates = less than 1/2 g
Fiber, dietary = zero grams
Sodium = 6 mg's
Calcium = 14 mg's
Iron = virtually zero mg's
Potassium = 17 mg's

Have you ever seen anyone measure out sour cream before putting it onto their plate or their food? It's real easy to add a lot more than the recommended serving to our baked potato or other once-healthy natural food.

And because it's a rich source of fat, it's not only the calories that impact the shape of our body. Different types of fat can head to our lower and upper abdominal areas and collect, creating layers of unsightly and unwanted fat.

Whole or Skim Sour Cream?

Opting for the reduced fat version can certainly cut calories and fat content, but often the flavor is sacrificed. Personally speaking, I would rather enjoy one serving of full-bodied sour cream than two or three of the skim versions.

Fat Distribution of Whole Sour Cream

Saturated Fat = about 1.5 grams. It's one of the worst types of lipids along with its cousin, Trans fat.

Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated are known as the good fats. They support heart health and cholesterol health.

Monounsaturated Fat = less than one gram.

Polyunsaturated Fat = also less than one gram.

Cholesterol = 5 milligrams. Current research is supporting the belief that some foods which contain cholesterol aren't as damaging as once thought. Time will tell the true story.

Total Fat = 2.5 grams - which is chiefly in the form of saturated fat - the bad boy lipid.
