Nutrition Data Chart With Calories, Carbs, Fat, Sodium, Protein Posted Below

The Jack in the Box burger menu isn't the healthiest on the planet, nor the worst. There are selections that can fit into most diet and weight loss plans. We've posted our choices below for dieters in addition to a data chart which provides the nutritional values for their burgers, chicken items and fish.

Let's view some nutritional concerns, for dieters and non-dieters alike....

Trans Fat & Saturated Fat Health Concerns

These particular types of fat pose detrimental health risks to the body. Over time, they can destroy a previously healthy heart and its circulatory system. Both Trans and saturated fat can also cause an accumulation of upper and lower abdominal fat.

Some of the selections on the Jack in the Box menu used to be substantial in Trans fat. This is the nutritional data for their old recipe:

The Sourdough Ultimate Cheeseburger

Calories = 950 kcals
Fat Content Totals = 73 grams
Saturated Fat = 29 grams
Trans Fat = 4.5 grams
Sodium Content = 1,360 mg's

It was high in Trans fat, containing a hefty 4.5 grams. But the unhealthy numbers did not stop - due to high caloric content and salt.

The Updated Ultimate Cheeseburger

Calories = 840 kcals
Fat Content Totals = 59 grams
Saturated Fat = 23 grams
Trans Fat = 1.5 grams
Sodium Content = 1,180 mg's

The Updated Sourdough Jack

Calories = 700 kcals
Fat Content Totals = 45 grams
Saturated Fat = 15 grams
Trans Fat = 3 grams
Sodium Content = 1,180 mg's

There are some obvious improvements in the area of fats. Calories and salt content is still way too high. The current advisory for sodium [salt] consumption by the American Heart Association is a maximum intake of 2,300 mg's per day - with the goal of lowering intake to 1,500 mg's over time.

Healthiest Choices From the Jack in the Box Menu

Chicken Pita: Contains 340 kcals and 12 total fat grams. The big nutrition negative isn't caloric content, rather salt at 1,000 mg's.

Hamburger: it contains only 340 calories and 18 grams of total fat. The older version contained less calories - 310 and only 15 total fat grams, so this menu item is headed in the wrong direction.

We don't like the one gram of Trans fat, but it is what it is. It's also high in sodium content at 570 mg's but on the positive side of nutrition, it does contain a gram of dietary fiber and 14 protein grams. The old version contained 16 protein grams - so that indicates that more fillers are being used.

Hamburger With Cheese: The nutritional values climb due to the addition of cheese, but for 380 kcals, it's one of the healthier choices on the menu. Sodium content of 780 mg's is still over the top.

They used to offer the Hamburger Deluxe. For 370 kcals and 21 total fat grams, it was a nice size burger that contained a lot less sodium than the hamburger with cheese. Another plus was the 17 protein grams.

In Summary

Anytime that ground beef is involved, there's going to be a lot of fat involved. Fast food restaurants tend to use the fattier hamburger because it's cheaper and juicer. There are generally additives like soy packed into the meat to extend the amount used in created the burger patty.

We've always liked Jack in the Box, particularly the one that is located in our area. They take care to wrap the burger so that you feel like you're getting something really nice - not something that has been slopped together. And the food that we've ordered over the years has always been tasty with one exception....their taco. It used to be so good, but it seems like they changed the recipe some years ago.

That said, if you visit choose from the menu wisely. You can also request a nutrition guide from your server to assist in placing your order.
