Jack in the Box Breakfast
Calories, Carbs, Fat

A Healthy Choice or Not?

The Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich on the Jack in the Box menu is exceptional...no, we're not referring to flavor, but to caloric content. In addition the fat content as well as the sodium content are exceptional. But it's not the only item on the menu that should raise eyebrows.

This breakfast sandwich contains a whopping 31 grams of total fat; 11 grams are derived from saturated fat. Protein grams mirror the fat content at 31 grams - but that will not offset the unhealthiness of this menu selection.

And oh me, oh my....just take a gander at the salt content. 1,540 milligrams of sodium? Seriously? Anyone who consumes this breakfast beast is more likely to spend their morning at the water cooler rather than at their work station. They may end up bloating to the extent that emergency help may be required to de-bloat their body OR help in removing them through the door at the end of the day. Or help from getting out of that tractor, or bulldozer, or that clown suit, or 'we do taxes here' outfit or....well, you get the picture, I'm sure.

Next in line is the Extreme Sausage® Sandwich weighing in at a substantial 650 calories, 49 total fat grams, 16 saturated fat grams, 0.5 Trans fat grams, and 1,140 milligrams of salt. And last but not least, there is 1 gram of healthy dietary fiber.

And yet, politicians are worried about the amount of soda consumed and want to tax that? It's all nuts....

Unhealthy Fats in Menu Choices

Two lipid sources in particular that need to be absent or limited in the daily diet are Trans fats and saturated fats. Both of these bad boys work to clog the arteries and do damage to the circulatory system over time. They may also be responsible for abdominal fat accumulation over time.

The Chicken Biscuit from the old Jack in the Box recipe was particularly worrisome as it contained 6 grams of Trans fat and an equal number of saturated fat grams. It has been cleaned-up and now contains zero Trans fat.

The sodium content is still climbing to 1,000 mg's. Excess salt intake impacts blood pressure, creates false water weight gain and bloating issues. The old official sodium intake recommendation was established at 2,300 milligrams. Over time, things changed. Health experts got smarter and were able to draw new conclusions.

At this point in time, the recommendation is to aim for not more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium daily. So if we order the Jack in the Box Chicken Biscuit from the Breakfast Menu - we can only consume about 500 more milligrams of sodium. That's really tough when one has yet to eat lunch, snacks or dinner.
