Why Fat is Important in Our Body

Written by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Minimal Fat Necessary to Support & Sustain Life

Vital Organ Padding

Without a padding of fat our vital organs would be at substantial risk to injury, permanent damage and the situation could even pose life threatening issues.

Fat Supports Hair, Skin & Nail Health

When an individual embraces a daily diet that is too restrictive in lipids the result is a negative impact on skin, hair and nails.

Hair may fall out by the handfuls - literally.

Skin may lose elasticity and revolve to a wan appearance.

The individual may even appear to have a green, grayish or faintly-purple cast as there is no significant layer of fat between the skin and the blood veins, vessels and arteries which serve to feed the body with life.

Nails will become brittle and thin, easily breaking with jagged edges.

Body Fat to Support Energy Needs

When we consume an overage of food, the body considers that overage as precious fuel - not the fat that we identify with.

We see an overweight individual and we think 'too much body fat'. If the internal body could talk, it would say, 'I have lots of stored energy'.

Wise Strategies While Dieting in Regards to Fat Intake

Your best strategy is to choose foods which are minimal in fat - which generally equals those in their natural state OR those which have went through the least amount of processing.

Half & Half is a good example of a food which is very high in calories and fat based on the very small serving size.
