Fruit Favorite Among Dieters

If you're dieting, I'd just about bet the farm that you're including grapefruit in your eating plan. And wisely so! It's packed with Vitamin C which can protect and boost your immunity while you're losing weight.

It's also very minimal in calories - which will vary, depending upon where the fruit was grown and harvested. Most contain about 100 calories per cup or 50 per 1/2 of a grapefruit.

The Grapefruit Diet Plan

This is a fad diet plan that you've probably heard of in some form or fashion over the years, whether you were trying to lose weight, or not. It's basically a starvation diet that poses great risk to the body. Avoid at all costs.

Grapefruit & Medicines

Ask your doctor about including grapefruit in your daily diet if you are taking prescription medications - or even over the counter meds. They can interfere with the effectiveness of the medications as well as cause significant health issues in some individuals.

* High blood pressure medications containing calcium channel blockers. When taken with grapefruit, potential side effects include faintness, dizziness, and weakness due to an excessive drop in blood pressure.

* Cholesterol medication (statins). They can become 15% more potent when mixed with this fruit.

* Grapefruit and antihistamines pose risk of a heart rhythm disturbance.
