After all, when civilization began, the first men who walked the earth didn't reside in air-conditioned dwellings - and they certainly didn't have a stove or refrigerator.
When it was time to prepare the meal, they used the open fire pit.
Therefore, using this cooking method also allows us to reconnect with our primitive side.
Just don't go hitting your better half on the head with a club or try dragging them across the lawn by the hair of the head.
If this should happen, you've perhaps carried your outdoor adventure just a tab too far....entering The Outer Limits; but of course - that's entirely another adventure.
If beef or other red meat is on the menu, then choose your selections wisely by avoiding fattier cuts as well as those that contain marbling - just another fancy word in the health world for 'rings of fat'.
As to the fast food grilled taco serving at 'The Bell', it's quite a good choice for 250 skinny calories and less than 15 dietary fat grams. Sodium is higher than we'd like in this beef selection, but certainly within the healthier realm where fast food is concerned.
You can prepare your own version at home quite easily. You'll need the following ingredients:
1 flour tortilla shell
1/2 cup of the following mix of sliced vegetables: onion, bell pepper, jalapeno (optional)
Lean beef cut into matchstick size
1 packet of your favorite Taco seasoning
You'll only need just a spoon of the seasoning mix if you're only going to be preparing one taco. Also, get out your favorite salsa if you wish to add more heat to your recipe.
You can use any method to prepare the beef - from outdoors over an open campfire to indoors on the stove top. Use zero caloric cooking spray to cook the vegetables in; when the onion starts to clarify then add the meat. Cook until thoroughly done.
Heat the tortilla and add the meat mixture. Fold and enjoy with a side of steamed Mexican rice and a low calorie beverage.
