Calories in Marie Callender's
Chicken Pot Pie

Written by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Delicious, Quick But Packed With Calories

Frankly, we've never tasted a frozen Marie Callender entree that we didn't love.

The foods that are available in the packaged section at the market are a different story; we feel that those don't meet the high quality standards in flavor that we've come to expect from this manufacturer.

As to the Chicken Pot Pies, they are like a taste of heaven.

The humble domestic chef would be hard-pressed to match the flavors and textures - and the chicken used is real - not the pressed stuff that tastes like chicken flavored marshmallows as found in all the other commercially produced ones that we've tasted.

However, there is a downside.

The caloric values are quite high for the tiny versions - about 500 for the chicken pot pie.

There are a couple of solutions for dieters - because for most who are trying to lose weight, this is a tab too many kcals to easily fit into one's weight loss plan.

The good news is that the entree contains selections from the grain, protein and vegetable groups. You'll need to add a dairy and fruit selection to your meal in order to satisfy all of the groups living within the official food pyramid.

Because more servings are required to satisfy the grain group than any other food group, we suggest enjoying 1/2 of the chicken pot pie along with a serving of whole grain bread.

You can have a dinner roll with your meal - or even a soft flour tortilla. Or what about a corn muffin or cornbread?

Also add a serving of reduced fat milk. Now you'll want to add a serving of your favorite fruit to your meal plate because by doing such you will have satisfied all of those important food groups.

Adding the extra servings of different foods and eating only one-half of the pie makes a wiser decision than eating the entire pie, dieting or not. Unless you're a beefy construction worker, weightlifter or circus clown, it's simply too many calories to eat at one sitting.

With only half of the pie going down into the tummy - we also have some adjustments to make in the area of calories and fatty acids.

We can adjust the kcals to about 250, the total fat to about 15 grams and the cholesterol milligrams to about 7.

Much better - not fantastically better, but at minimum a healthier meal.
