What is a Capon?

Sad but so, capons are 'defrocked' roosters. This is done in order to produce a bird that is larger and whose flesh is improved for the dining table.

How to Prepare

They are prepared in the same manner as one would a chicken - or any other type of poultry. And as with all species of poultry, it is quite rich in protein content, holding over 55 grams for every edible pound of bird.

There are zero carbohydrates as well as zero dietary fiber grams, sugars and caffeine contained in capons.

In addition, they hold more monounsaturated fat than saturated.

The negative spin is that capons are very plentiful in cholesterol with over 723 per bird. This is just one reason why it's good to get away from the animal proteins and start reaching for those that are plant-based.

What's wrong with a serving of beans for meal time? Add a side of whole grain cornbread prepared using your favorite recipe and substituting reduced fat milk for the recommended regular.

We don't need to stop there. We can add a healthy salad that contains those oh-so-important minerals and vitamins that the body feasts upon.

And when we feed the body the types of foods that it requires rather than those which serve our cravings rather than fulfilling the body's needs - we start to feel a whole lot better. And we even start to feel great about the healthier foods that we are adding to our daily eating plans.

We're not saying that eating a capon will create major health issues - but we do feel that many of the things that are done to animals that end up on the table are quite cruel and unnecessary.

If we had to personally do these things, a lot more humans would be eating plant-based foods these days - and be a lot healthier because of such.
