Winning the Weight War

If you're trying to lose those pounds that you've somehow managed to pack on over the years, if you are like most dieters you will have those special moments of reflection which involve your prior eating history.

The more serious that you are about losing, the more intense the reflections.

And what better time than now to start learning about which foods worked in putting on weight - and how those foods can be substituted with healthier choices so that once you reach your fitness goals - you'll never have to deal with losing again, right?

On that note, let's take a look at the Whopper. I must admit that I have a very soft spot in my heart when it comes to Burger King; I worked there decades ago when I was about sixteen years old. It was my first 'real' job - unless one counts folding the laundry, sweeping the floors and doing the dishes per papa's orders as 'real jobs'.

When I started working there, this fast food restaurant was making strides as the newest burger joint in town - and they did such with class.

On the opening night at the store where I worked, the customers wound around the block as they waited to get their first taste of a flame-broiled burger. They are indeed special - and hold a unique flavor due to the cooking methods.

Because there were so many people waiting in line to order, they placed me at the ordering station while everyone else went to work filling the orders. By the end of the night, I remember that my throat felt a bit raspy from calling out all of those orders.

It was a really fun 'first real job' and I learned a lot during my summer there.

When I worked there, the meat was placed on a conveyor-type belt and sent through a bed of fire. I'm uncertain if they are still prepared in this manner - but one thing I am certain of; they are certainly very tasty. Unfortunately, they have more calories than Swiss cheese has holes.

But - we do have a wonderful, savvy suggestion. While the full-blown cheeseburger contains close to 800 calories, the smaller one contains about one-half that amount and is your best choice when you must have a burger at this restaurant.

Also, request the lower fat mustard as your spread and wink-on-by the Mayo. Your scales will thank you for it come the morrow. And by ordering the smaller selection - you won't be sacrificing that unique Whopper flavor by doing such.
