Am I Blue?

Sure ya are if you are eating blueberries! They turn the tongue and lips an awesome color. Speaking of which, the next time that Halloween rolls around and you're seeking to look frightening, grab a container of these babies and you'll have the situation totally covered.

They also do a nice stain job on the choppers.

The added perks are many. They are super healthy and frankly, they simply taste dog-gone great.

Even when they aren't in season and fresh isn't available, the freezer of most markets have them in stock in the frozen section. Our freezer is rarely without wild blueberries as my husband has a fondness for them and enjoys them with his morning whole grain cereal and milk.

They also make wonderful snacks, even when frozen. They can be thawed and enjoyed - or consumed in their frozen state. This is a wonderful way to enjoy them amid a hot summer day.

The Nutritional Warriors

As to the nutritional values, they are a rich source of beta carotene, dietary fiber and they even hold good potassium content. There is about one gram of protein in a one cup serving which contains a tiny 83 calories.

The blueberry is commonly chosen over the blackberry because the later is mined with tiny, bothersome seeds that can get trapped in the teeth. However, both are excellent choices and one cup of each will satisfy the body's daily minimal requirement from the Fruit Group.
