Rare to the Meal Plate

Oddly enough, beet greens can be safely consumed. In some vegetable plants, eating the leaves can prove unfortunate - and even fatal in some situations. For example, the leaves of the tomato (actually a fruit, botanically speaking) can make a body terribly ill.

If you've never added this variety of greens to your meal plate, you certainly have company. While collards and turnip greens are a common food at the table - particularly on those tables which reside in the south, the greens of the beet are far less common.

They do hold significant dietary benefits for the body. Areas that are impressive include their substantial potassium content at about 1300 milligrams per cooked cup. Another area which is impressive - the calcium content at about 164 milligrams per cup.

Leafy greens should be included at meal time several times per week for optimum health. Consumption of such may reduce risks of certain types of cancers which are commonly associated with the digestive system. In addition, they work to sweep the gut free of harmful toxins. On that note, let's view the detailed nutrition facts for this super vegetable.
