Fact is, there is a lot to like about this natural super food.

Why it's so low in caloric values it's no wonder that it has been a controversial fruit throughout history.

It was so tempting that it is even believed to have caused the fall of man and womankind.

One thing is certain - it's a beautiful creation with a red outer covering, a lovely white flesh and even the black seeds are quite attractive to the human eye.

Of course, red isn't the only coat worn by a respectable apple; at times they are displayed in green and yellows of various shades.

The green skin varieties are touted for the flavor they add to pies and are considered as 'the source'.  They tend to be tarter than their peers, but just as delicious when used appropriately.

We've all heard the old saying, 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away.' It may also keep coffee away as health studies indicate that an apple in the morning might prove more effective in waking up an individual than caffeine. That snappy crunch will certainly do it!

Calories in Apples

Let's take a look at this super food's caloric values, including its other awesome nutritional values. The kcals are very minimal; one small specimen contains a tab over 50 while big boy varieties contain slightly over 100.

On this note, if you're dieting or seeking to control energy intake amid snack times of the day - rather than reaching for a commercially prepared wedge of cardboard, reach for the red, yellow or green skin natural beauties instead.

While commercially prepared products hold added vitamin and mineral content, it's always wisest to get your daily dose from natural foods, instead.

And just look at the rich content that this Fruit Group serving holds!

Dietary Fiber in Apples

Even the smallest of the liter contains 2.5 grams with the biggest containing over 5.

With most individuals requiring from 20 to about 25 grams per day, one large specimen will get them about 1/4 the way there.

Who needs supplements with nutritional benefits this rich?

This super food is also minimal in dietary fat content and contains zero cholesterol. What a deal for a healthy diet, eh?
