Looking for Fiber in All the Wrong Places

Unfortunately, there isn't much to be found among this selection of foods. What we will find is a lot of calories for many of the following selections - but there are also some healthy benefits accompanying such.

Peanut Butter, Minimal in Dietary Fiber

Take peanut butter. While it holds slightly less than one gram of dietary fiber, it's an extremely healthy and basically inexpensive food choice. We can spread it onto whole grain bread and have a hearty meal. We can add it to recipes to create healthier treats for snack time.

Sure - it contains a significant amount of fat, but it's very satisfying. That two Tablespoon serving size which contains anywhere from 140 to slightly over 200 kcals - depending upon the brand as well as the variety (chunky, extra chunky, whipped, smooth) will keep a dieter feeling very content until the next meal arrives.

About Fiber in Cooking Oils, Mayo & Salad Dressings

As with all edible oils - cooking, as well as buttery spread, most all contain zero dietary fiber. Unlike peanut butter, apple butter and other fruit jams - these oily spreads rarely contain elements that will support health in the body. Therefore, they should be limited in the daily eating plan.

As to Mayo, it's very high in fatty acid content which in turn impacts the caloric values in a negative manner. This spread should be limited in the daily diet - and when it is used, it should be spread thinly.
