Fat Grams in Pecan Pie
|

Actually, depending upon the fat distribution of the food selection [which is also based upon the recipe used to prepare the pie] - it may or may not be the better choice.
Generally, the apple is the best of the three because it contains a healthy addition of fruit. Then again, if it is a double-crusted version - the fat distribution as well as the total caloric values may make it the lessor choice.
And the Lemon Chiffon does contain a splash of nutritional values such as calcium from the dairy food group.
It's a classic and the nuts contained therein are a healthy source for vegetable protein. However, pecan pies contain syrup and sugar in the recipe which unfortunately negates those healthy values.

We're better off - we're healthier if we simply enjoy the natural nut straight from the shell.
Keeping these things in mind the dieter must pay special attention to the nutritional labeling on the commercially prepared product as well as the ingredient list in homemade versions of desserts.
Take special note that nut pies contain quite a lot of dietary fat grams. They, along with dried fruit pies - such as mincemeat and raisin, are the ones that are highest in caloric values.
However, if slices were kept at a minimal size and if sugar wasn't an issue, then these types of desserts would be more healthy. So again - if you're craving a pecan or one of your other favorite nuts, it's best to enjoy them naturally rather than inside a sugary pie that contains a dough-wad crust.
Note on the data chart that pies are based on one slice of an eight-inch round pie that contains six slices - so about 1/6th of a pie.
