Fish Fillets - The Easy Diet Plan Lunch & Dinner Menus

The Easy Diet Plan - Weight Loss Plan #2 - Part 1 Here

Fish is a dieter's delight! Low in fat, low in calories, rich in the Omega 3's. Diet Bites contains several recipes showcasing fish but the focus of this article will remain on preparing tasty meals using fish fillets.

While non-battered fish is preferable when dieting as well as for being a healthier food choice, there are times when nothing by a battered fillet will do. Therefore, let's see what we can make - that remains low in caloric values with our favorite commercially prepared battered fish which is readily available in the frozen section at the market.

Opt for those battered fillets which are lowest in caloric content. One of our favorites is Gorton's Beer Battered Fillets. They are very delicious and contain only 115 calories per fillet when baked in the oven, 7 total dietary fat grams and only 1.7 saturated fat grams per fillet.

The serving recommendation is for two fish fillets which brings the total to 230 calories, 14 total fat grams and 3.5 saturated fat grams. To prepare, we deter a bit from the cooking directions on the package. We smear just a tiny bit of peanut oil on a sheet of foil, the bake in our little toaster oven at the temperature directed on the box. About mid-way through the cooking phase, we turn the fish so that it evenly browns.

If the fish is removed from the oven per package instructions, it's not very crunchy - and we like our fillets to have a bit of crunch. Therefore, we simply allow them to cook a bit longer - sometimes 5-10 minutes longer.

Lower Fat, Lower Calorie Fish Fillet Sandwich Recipe

Transfer just ONE of the prepared battered fish fillets to a mini-hamburger bun which contains about 100 calories. Add the following homemade tartar sauce: 1/4 cup of Miracle Whip Light combined with a dash of celery seed, a pinch or two of dried dill weed, a good dash of paprika, finely-chopped raw onions and a heaping teaspoon of pickle relish. You can also add a squeeze of fresh lemon. Use just a bit on the fish sandwich.

Although we just used one fish fillet in our recipe, you can certainly use two - or you can opt to enjoy two whole sandwiches. With the small buns, they contain just a tab over 200 calories each, even with the tartar sauce.

Enjoy our Corkscrew Coleslaw recipe with the sandwich. Ingredients for this low calorie, low fat recipe are:

2 cups of raw cabbage - grated; we used the common green head of cabbage
1 raw carrot - grated

Dash of celery seed

1 Tablespoon of dark or golden raisins

3 Tablespoons of Light Mayo

Splenda to suit personal taste

Dash of Salt

Mix together and chill thoroughly. Serves 4 for about 50 calories each.
