Golden Grilled Cheese Sandwich - Easy to prepare - containing a simple three ingredients. But you can certainly take this sandwich up a notch in flavor. We'll show you how.....

Those three simple ingredients are of course: bread, cheese and butter. We can drastically change the flavor of our Grilled Cheese Sandwich by simply changing the type of cheese used. We can go a notch further by adding any of the following to our grilled cheese sandwich: sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, pimentos, bacon bits or bacon, jalapeno peppers, pineapple tidbits, chopped lean ham, thin slices of apple, and thin slices of deli meat which creates a swell melt. But....this can also create a swelled body.

Cheese contains a lot of sodium unless otherwise stated on the label. Too much salt in the body equals a perfect recipe for water retention which in turn, equals false weight gain.

Other downsides of too much sodium in the body include: stress on the heart and circulatory system; stress on the kidneys; an uncomfortable feeling of bloat and pressure; and an impact on blood pressure levels.

Needless to say, when choosing your cheese, check the labels and opt for those containing reduced amounts of sodium.

Using whole grain bread for your grilled cheese sandwich will increase the nutritional values.

Golden Grilled Cheese Sandwich - a lower calorie recipe for weight loss.

Rather than smattering butter or margarine on the bread for toasting, use butter flavored cooking spray instead. It may not be an ingredient that you'll want to use for the remainder of your life for toasting purposes, but it can assist in keeping calories at a minimum and in helping one lose those unwanted pounds.

Toast the bread as you would for your typical grilled cheese sandwich, but when it comes time to add the cheese, add the following on top of the cheese before adding that second slice of toasted bread: 1/2 cup of sliced mushrooms that have been sauteed in cooking spray and drained thoroughly on a paper towel before adding to the cheese.

Mushrooms are one of the lovely vegetables that tend to take on the flavors surrounding them and work to enhance those flavors. They also work well in creating a feeling of fullness.

We used 70-calorie whole grain bread for our grilled cheese sandwich, and 50-calorie mozzarella cheese. Total calories equal about 200 calories. Enjoy two Golden Grilled Cheese Sandwiches plus an additional 100 calories of your choice. Might we suggest a serving of baked beans?
