Diet Recipe for Hot Dogs, Reduced Calorie

Cheesy Hot Dogs - Grab your baseball and a slice of baked apple pie cuz we have some healthy hot dogs on the grill. OR, the stove top, if you please.....

Hot dogs are generally taboo for anyone trying to lose weight, but when a few smart choices are tossed into the mix, hot dogs can indeed be a part of a healthy daily diet. Let's review our weight loss tips when it comes to hot dogs:

The Frank:

Be sure to use light, lean franks which tend to contain the fewest calories. Always check the labels.

The Bun:

Buns can be found these days that are bigger than Dallas. Keep calories under control by opting for the standard hot dog bun containing about 110 calories.

Whole grain buns make a healthier choice. As to toasting the bun, spraying with butter flavored cooking spray rather than smearing on butter or margarine for toasting purposes can prevent the dieter from striking out where weight loss is concerned. Better yet, seek the freshest buns (hot dog buns....) and forget about toasting.

The Toppings:

Cheese and chili overload tend to be the biggest Calorie Culprits - so keep a watchful eye on these two items. Using hot dog sauce rather than chili makes a very wise choice as hot dog sauce contains about 10 calories per serving, thus adding flavor without your hot dog experiencing a Calorie Overload.

Another potential Weight Gain Danger is Mayo. If you love Mayo on your hot dog, switching to the yellow sunshine can assist with weight loss.

Cheesy Hot Dogs - a tasty lower calorie recipe for Cheese Lovers

We used a 110 calorie bun with a 110 calorie frank tucked inside. Because we used fresh buns we didn't toast them.

Diet Hot Dog Recipe, ingredientWe topped our hot dog with hot dog sauce (10 calories per serving and we were generous and used about 3 servings) and we also used 1 serving of Tostitos Queso for 40 calories.

And of course we warmed the sauce and the Queso before adding it to our hot dog.

Enjoy 2 of these fully-loaded hot dogs.

If you're not feeling cheesy, then spread a little sunshine on your hot dog and ketchup if you like; next fill the hot dog with grilled veggies (you can also prepare these on your stove top using cooking spray) such as sliced mushrooms, sliced onions and peppers.

Or, opt for sour kraut which is very filling and extremely low in calories.
