FDA Issues Diet Supplement Warning for Male Enhancements

The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) has issued a warning to consumers not to purchase certain dietary supplements promoting male enhancement as they contain ingredients that may present dangerous health risks.

The list of dietary supplements to avoid that have been released by the FDA are: Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx, and 4EVERON.

The FDA warning also includes the following information for consumers:

Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx, and 4EVERON are promoted and sold on the web as dietary supplements to enhance male sexual performance, as well as for treating erectile dysfunction (ED).

According to the FDA, these dietary supplements contain illegal drugs that contain potentially harmful undeclared ingredients.  In addition:

- there is no guarantee of the drug's safety

- there is no guarantee of the drug's purity

- there is no guarantee of the drug's effectiveness

- these dietary supplements may interact with other medications to pose significant health risks, including reducing low blood pressure to dangerous levels

If you are currently using Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx, or 4EVERON the FDA recommends that you discontinue use and consult your health care provider.

The FDA also warns that these dietary supplements contain undeclared chemicals identical or similar to the ones found in FDA-approved prescription drugs such as in the case of Zimaxx which contains sildenafil, an active pharmaceutical ingredient found in Viagra.  Viagra by Pifzer, Inc. is a prescription drug prescribed by doctors for the treatment of ED.

Another example is the ingredient, vardenafil found in the dietary supplements which is the active ingredient in Levitra by GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Schering-Plough Corp, also a prescription drug prescribed by doctors for the treatment of ED.

The FDA has sent warning letters to the companies marketing these dietary supplements citing false labeling and providing misleading information to the consumer.

Detailed Information on Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx & 4EVERON

Side Effects of Zimaxx, Including Ingredients in Zimaxx -  Contains Tyrsone Gyo Guram, Lycium Fruit, Proline, Epimadium, Glutamin Acid, Cistanche, and Phenylalanine with claims of rectifying premature ejaculation, improving arthritis as well as erection achievement in diabetic men.  When used on a temporary basis by women, Zimaxx claims improved sexual drive, along with quicker, easier orgasms.  Zimaxx claims to be safe yet recommends that individuals experiencing any of the following conditions consult their doctor before taking Zimaxx: anemia, leukemia, osteomyelitis, duodenal, hypertension, chronic ED due to surgery.

Lycium Fruit is a herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine as a sexual tonic to enhance fertility and virility; also used as a vision enhancer, and to enhance endurance.

Proline is an amino acid that is synthesized naturally in the body by glutamic acid. Synthesized within the body, so supplements unnecessary.

Glutamin Acid is an interceptor of ammonia within the body and works to safely transport ammonia out of the body. Synthesized within the body, so supplements unnecessary.

Phenylalanine is an amino acid that can be derived naturally from certain foods.

Side Effects of Libidus, Including Ingredients in Libidus - Contains seven varieties of herb as well as Eurycoma Longifolia, a shrub-like tree found in Thailand, Sumatra and the Phillipines, which is the main ingredient with claims of rectifying libido. Eurycoma Longifolia is primarily considered an aphrodisiac but traditional uses include everything from hypertension to ulcers. Research indicates that Eurycoma produces androgenic effects in rodents which in turn may cause side effects such as an enlarged prostrate.  Insomnia may also be a side effect of Eurycoma.

Side Effects of Neophase, Including Ingredients in Neophase  - Contains the following 'natural' ingredients: Rhodiola Crenulata Root, Lycium Chinesis Fruit, Curculigo Rhizome Root, Ginseng Root, Licorice Root, Snow Lotus Flower and Cordyceps Sinensis with the possibility of the following side effects: minor headache, facial flushing, dizziness.

Rhodiola Crenulata Root is a herb propagated in the Orient traditionally used for physical endurance, combating stress and for invigorating the mind.

Lycium Chinensis Fruit is a herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine as a sexual tonic to enhance fertility and virility; also used as a vision enhancer, and to enhance endurance.

Curculigo Rhizome Root (Golden-Eye Grass) is a Chinese herb traditionally used in combating dampness, kidney issues, impotence, and joint pain.

Ginseng Root is a herb traditionally used to enhance energy levels and physical stamina as well as intellectual performance. Also used in treating flu, fatigue, common cold, sore throat, and as support for the male reproductive system.  May cause insomnia, breast tenderness in women as well as menstrual irregularities. When coupled with caffeine, may trigger digestive upset.

Licorice Root is a herb traditionally used for treating constipation, sore throat, ulcers, colds, muscle spasms and painful urination.  Licorice Root has the ability to effect the water balance within the body and may interfere with the electrolytes calcium and potassium thus prohibiting absorption.  May interact with other medications.  Those highest at risk at individuals taking other medications and herbs as well as those individuals with kidney, heart and high blood pressure disease.

Snow Lotus Flower is found in the Himalayas and Southwest Chins and is currently facing possible extinction due to demand and over-harvesting. May possess cancer-fighting agents.  Used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating rheumatism to women's issues.

Cordyceps Sinensis is a parasite fungus found in Tibet.  Traditionally used for treating inflammation of the kidneys.

Side Effects of Nasutra, Including Ingredients in Nasutra - Contains ten Chinese herbs to form a highly concentrated dose of male enhancement performance. The ten Chinese herbs are: Cynomorium, Bai-zhu atractylodes, Lycium, Epimedium, Cassia,
Rehmannia, Fo-Ti, Schisandra, Asian ginseng, and Chinese amomum.  Other ingredients include: Microcrystalline cellulose, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Sodium Lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, gelatin and water.  They report no known side effects.

Side Effects of Vigor-25, Including Ingredients in Vigor-25 - Contains Rhodiola Rhizome, Lycium Fruit, Chinese Yam Rhizome, Poria Sclerotium, Cnidium Fruit, Tienchi Ginseng, Cassia and Asian Ginseng. They report no known side effects but advise to exercise caution for those with pre-existing heart conditions, including high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Actra-Rx, Including Ingredients in Actra-Rx - A report by the FDA indicates that Actra-Rx capsules contained prescription-strength quantities of sildenafil, the active ingredient found in Viagra.  They recommend consumers experiencing ED not to take Actra-Rx and state that by doing such can be not only be dangerous to their health, but even life-threatening.
