Holiday Packages - A Diet Friendly Recipe

If you have never baked with puff pastry, you're in for an amazing treat.

Puff pastry lends the appearance of a professional bakery recipe, so the recipe looks like it was prepared by a professional chef rather than the humble home cook.

Diet Holiday Packages Recipe Ingredients

You'll need one package of puff pastry dough in order to create our holiday package recipe.

Divide the pastry into 9 squares and fill with the following mix of ingredients.

1 cup of cooked diced chicken

2 cups of sauteed (raw) spinach cooked in cooking spray with a bit of diced onion + sliced mushrooms

1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese, skim based variety

How to Prepare Our Diet Holiday Packages Recipe

Fold puff pasty squares to form a triangle.

Next, brush with an egg wash and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees until golden brown.

Because the ingredients are all cooked, we just need the dough to turn to a golden brown stage. My toaster oven requires about twenty minutes to complete the baking process.

About the Egg Wash

The egg wash will make the dough look beautiful. You can also use this technique on many fresh baked items, like breads.

Crimping the Edges to Seal the Pastry Dough

We also like to crimp the edges of the dough as we form our triangle. Pressing the tines of a fork into the dough will create a lovely pattern. Or you can use any pressing tool of your choice to create your own design.

Venting the Pastry Dough for Steam

Cut a small criss-cross in the top of the dough to allow the steam to escape during the baking process.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with a bowl of whole cranberry sauce if desired.

Diet Puff Pastry RecipeBesides being kind to the waist, our Holiday Packages allows the chef to add as much of the filling ingredients as desired.

If you're a mushroom lover, then add more mushrooms. If you don't like spinach, then omit - and so forth. One thing is for certain; your holiday guests will be asking the name of the bakery where you 'purchased' these beautiful, tasty delights.

There are numerous recipes that can be created with puff pastry, like our apple pie posted to the left. Simply add canned apple filling to the dough along with desired spices and bake.
