Surprising Snacks That are Healthy
by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites
If you're watching calories to drop those unwanted pounds yet find yourself longing for ice cream (yes, ice cream), chocolate (yes, chocolate) and the nuttiness of nuts - you'll love adding these surprisingly healthy foods to your snack list.
Healthy benefits aside, these three snacks provide a blast of energy which in turn helps boost motivation. When you feel better, you can accomplish more, particularly when trying to lose weight.
But wait! There are more benefits to these surprising healthy snacks:
The calorie count is low; about 150 calories per snack.
These healthy snacks contain a splash of fiber which offers satiety power (you'll feel fuller for a longer period of time). Fiber also helps keep the digestive system moving right along.
These healthy snacks also contain a bit of fat which is a necessary element to the healthy daily diet.
Diet Snack #1 - Measure out 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream which contains no more than 130 calories per serving. Of course, the lower the fat content, the lower the calories. Next, slice 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries and add to the ice cream. OR - use your favorite fruit. Hello Dairy Group! Hello Fruit Group!
Diet Snack #2 - Nuts covered in dark chocolate. Enjoy no more than 150 calories' worth. The dark chocolate offers heart-healthy benefits; the nuts contain fiber and the majority of fat contained in nuts is monounsaturated which has been found to be useful in controlling serum cholesterol levels. Another similar snack is dried fruits covered in dark chocolate. Hello Protein Group! Hello Fruit Group! AND hello chocolate!
Diet Snack #3 - Protein-packed peanut butter & preserves. Calories can be slashed by using the sugar-free preserves BUT a small teaspoon typically contains about 25 calories and the taste is simply delicious for such a tiny calorie content. One Tablespoon of peanut butter contains about 95 calories. We suggest mixing the peanut butter and preserves and spreading on crackers. Hello Protein Group! Hello Fruit Group! Hello Grain Group!
