Free 30 Day Diet Plan - Just in time to help you get in shape for the summer!

Free 3 Day Diet Plan - Drop those pesky pounds with the natural goodness of fruit.

Packed with sweet flavor, fiber and healthy vitamins that your body needs, fruit delivers. It's filling, it can also help a dieter manage those sweet cravings which tend to be ultra high in calories and fat which in turn, contributes or supports weight gain.

What Should I Weigh? - One of the first things that a pre-dieter should do is jot down a goal weight number. But all too often, they jot down a number that is far too small, making the weight loss process even more agonizing. It's the old saying, "Dream - and dream big." Here's our savvy tip that will assist in keeping you on track while losing weight, as well as our recommended goal weight charts for dieters.

Phoods - Nutritionally Enhanced Foods

As a Health Seeker, you may have zeroed-in on some of the ultra-vitamin-fortified and nutritionally enhanced foods that have appeared at the markets these days.

Calcium-fortified orange juice, fortified margarine, nutrient enhanced drinks and power bars are just a sampling of the 'phoods' that lend the belief that 'more nutrition is best nutrition' - that the more nutritional values a food contains, the longer one might live and the healthier the body will be 'in the meanwhile'.

Before assuming that pharmaceutical enriched foods will accomplish miraculous milestones, the following facts should be taken into consideration:

- Phoods may assist in meeting nutritionally needs of some daily dieters, such as vegans.

- Nutritionally enhanced foods may be promoted as highly beneficial to health, while the added nutrient is weak. Example: Luetein added to juice.

-  Added nutrients to foods may interact with prescription or over the counter drugs, decreasing or enhancing their effectiveness.

- While some added nutrients to foods may assist some individuals, they may offer no benefits to others. Example: Benecol is a fortified margarine which has clinically been proven to lower cholesterol. However, individuals with normal cholesterol have no need for this product.

- Many health claims regarding the benefit surrounding Phoods are debatable.

In summary, rather than placing the focus on nutritionally enhanced foods, focus on the Official Food Groups of the Food Pyramid which naturally meet nutritional needs.

Some Phoods may actually cause more harm than good to your body, such as the case of Iron Overload. For years, added iron has been packaged into the food chain; modern medicine has discovered a connection with middle-aged males experiencing heart attacks due to an over consumption of iron.

We eat iron-fortified breads, we eat iron-fortified cereals, we take iron supplements in our daily vitamins, and we cook in iron skillets. While iron is an important element of good health, too much of a good thing isn't such a good thing anymore.

Therefore, choose your foods wisely. If you're currently on medications, please check with your doctor before reaching that nutritionally fortified food as it may render your medication useless.

And when in doubt, always ask your doctor - even if it involves something as simple as asking about a nutritionally enhanced food.
