What Should I Weigh? - One of the first things that a pre-dieter should do is jot down a goal weight number. But all too often, they jot down a number that is far too small, making the weight loss process even more agonizing. It's the old saying, "Dream - and dream big." Here's our savvy tip that will assist in keeping you on track while losing weight, as well as our recommended goal weight charts for dieters.

Short & Overweight
Short 'n sweet may sound sweet, but if you're among the short, odds are - there is nothing sweet about weight management.
Height is a huge part of the Weight Management Pie. Let's peer into the lives of Amy and Annie to get a sense of how difficult weight management can be AND how easy weight gain can be for a shorty:
Amy is 6 feet tall moderately active. Although Amy has a medium frame, she can weigh up to 162 pounds and still remain within her recommended weight. To remain within her recommended weight range, she can consume up to 2,430 calories per day.
Annie is 4'11" tall and moderately active with a medium frame. She can weigh up to 123 pounds and still remain within her recommended weight. To remain within her recommended weight range, Annie should be able to consume up to 1,845 calories per day BUT due to her personal composition (ethnicity, muscle mass, metabolism speed, health and most importantly age as Annie is 58 years old) she has determined that in order to maintain her current weight, she can consume no more than 1,550 calories per day. Anything more, and Annie puts on unwanted weight unless she picks up her activity level.
Conclusion: Amy can consume almost 1,000 calories more per day than Annie while retaining her recommended weight. Add 500 calories to that amount - and we have Annie's daily calorie limit. It doesn't take a genius to see that short people really have it tough when it comes to weight management issues.
And it's not only the calorie intake. When a short person gains five pounds, the effect is much different than a five pound weight gain on a taller person. Due to the lack of distribution room, five extra pounds on a short person is very noticeable.
But let's go a step further. That five pound weight gain on a shorter person is also harder to lose. Because the daily calorie base is low to begin with, cutting out calories in order to achieve weight loss often equals a daily diet lacking sufficient vitamins and minerals necessary for optimum health.
If you're short and dealing with weight gain, our best advice is to determine the amount of recommended calories your body requires in order to maintain it's recommended weight.
Next, rather than going on a restrictive diet - stick to the recommended daily calories.
It might take a while longer to drop those unwanted pounds, but in the process - you'll become accustomed to the number of calories your body requires each day as you develop an eating pattern that best suits your body's needs.
