Relaxation Supports
Healthy Weight Loss

Excessive Exercise Can Be as Unhealthy as Inactivity

As we were coasting along the non-congested strip of highway, my husband Tom and I noticed a man jogging at a heated pace down the access road. He was dressed in a pair of short-shorts and white running shoes. No shirt; no shades.

He was redder than a fresh beet, was liberally bathed in sweat, and he looked as if he might fall over in a heap at any moment.

All that misery - it was a high price to pay for a trim shape, but was the runner really making strides towards a healthier body? Or was he taxing his body, pushing it beyond sane reasoning under the umbrella of a 100-degree sunny day?

Running in 100-degree weather with no protective gear, as well as lack of replenishing liquids is indeed, risky business.

With that in mind, let's allow ourselves to drift from the edge of reality to a peaceful cove where dieters rarely throng.....

Relaxing for Weight Loss

Generally, there are two common elements to a new diet plan:

Healthier, lower fat, low calorie menus.

Moderate activity.

Activity is brilliant for strengthening the body - the muscles, particularly the heart, as well as for toning purposes as the body shrinks. But when butt-wrenching activity is pushed beyond sane reasoning, diets have a tendency to fall apart.

Unfortunately, so many Seekers of Weight Loss fling themselves into a brutal activity program - experiencing soreness the first week of their diet, and total exhaustion the next - and "I want my old diet life back because this isn't worth it!" the next week.

Activity is a necessary element of a healthier body - but fact is, the most effective element of weight loss is the healthier, lower fat, lower calorie menus.

Although these two elements work hand-in-hand in producing weight loss, dieters generally omit a very important element to the weight loss process.

Relaxation.

To illustrate the importance of relaxation, let's think about the last time Penny took a vacation and traveled.  In the beginning, she was so excited - couldn't wait to hit the road and start collecting souvenirs.

By the time the fifth day of vacation rolled around, home was looking pretty good.

But if Penny had paused to catch her breath and rested a spell, she may have gotten a second wind.

Such is dieting.  We propel ourselves onward, through the wooded wonders of the Diet World.  We sail through choppy Diet Seas. And we climb tall Weight Loss Plateaus, traveling days on end without so much as an ounce of weight drifting off weary little Diet Bodies.

We grow tired and frustrated with dieting.  It's at this point that many dieters toss in their Diet Running Shoes - or what is left of them.  Most dieters thrash the poor things to smithereens with their 200-hundred mile jog they did - in three days!

However, when relaxation is included as one of the important elements of dieting - it allows us to gather a second wind and make awesome strides in the way of weight loss success.

Here are some more of the healthy benefits of relaxation.

Relaxation relieves stress and tension.

Relaxation helps us avoid impulsive eating.

Relaxation helps the dieter stay in focus with their goals.

Relaxation allows the body to rest, recover and heal.
