Dieters Chocolate Cake Recipe
Low in Calories

Chocolate Cake, Higher in Fat, Calories Than Most Other Flavors

Chocolate cake generally contains more calories than other flavors such as vanilla, white, orange, strawberry, spice, pineapple, cherry and lemon.

And of course there are multiple flavors of the chocolate variety: milk, Dutch, German, Devils food, double and dark.

We have a comparison chart below the following recipe so that you can see the differences in the cake ingredients; the frosting will also add significant differences.

A picture of our recipe is posted below, with frosting added.

Diet Chocolate Cake Recipe

Diet Chocolate Cake RecipeYou will need the following ingredients to prepare:

1 & 1/3 cup of all purpose flour
2/3 cup of granulated sugar or Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 cup of dark cocoa powder
1 egg beaten with 2/3 cup of skim milk
1/4 cup of melted reduced fat margarine
2 teaspoons of baking powder
2 teaspoons of imitation vanilla or vanilla extract

How to Prepare This Recipe

Combine all of the dry ingredients in one bowl and the wet in another. Then add the dry to the wet. Beat with a mixer until thoroughly combined - about a minute or so.

Pour the batter into your choice of baking ware, treating it first with cooking spray. Bake for about half an hour at 350 degrees.

To create a cherry tort version of this recipe, bake in a round pan then cool to room temperature when the cake is done.

Slice the layer in half; add cherry pie filling that is of the sugar-reduced variety and then add a layer of reduced fat whipped topping. Replace the top layer and dust with powdered sugar using a paper doily to create a pretty design.

If you don't like cherry - what about strawberry or pineapple? Just use the fresh berries or canned where pineapple is concerned.

Mix the fruit with a bit of granulated sugar or Splenda, then mix with a small container of thawed light whipped topping before using as a filling for your chocolate tort.

German Chocolate Version of This Recipe

For a German chocolate version of the cake, use German sweet cooking chocolate - about 4 ounces, melted before adding to the recipe. Use buttermilk (low fat) or sour milk (add 1 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar to skim milk to sour). Use two eggs instead of one. Also add 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the recipe ingredients.
